[A/N: Hi, Everyone! Thanks sosososo much for reading, favoriting, all that jazz. This chapter was probably the most difficult for me to write so far, it contains some smut and some action so I hope it's not disappointing! It's also looooooong, and this and the next are leading to the final confrontation of the arc. I'll let you know next time who our next route will be, but for now, thank you as always for being patient with me and enduring these long waits while I do stupid shit like schoolwork. Who needs that, right? Can I just make a living off of fanfics please? Haha. Anyway, stay warm this winter and I hope all of you stay healthy. Much love -Usa]
"Here."
Your eyes widen in surprise as Namjoon sets the steaming mug on the desk in front of you. You look from the cup to the leader of Bangtan questioningly, feeling a bit hesitant now that the two of you are alone.
Yoongi was here originally, but Namjoon asked him to step out moments ago so he could speak with you privately. He was reluctant to leave your side, but in the end, you told him it was alright. But is it? You certainly don't see Bangtan's leader as a demon anymore, but he did almost kill you at one point.
"Don't worry, [Y/n]-ssi," Namjoon assures in a surprisingly gentle tone. "It's not acid or toilet water or anything. Just jasmine tea."
You frantically wave your hands in front of you. "Ah, I didn't think there was anything wrong with it, honest-"
Namjoon chuckles, removing his glasses and taking a seat across from you. "Relax, I'm kidding."
You cautiously smile back at him, leaning over and taking a whiff of the fragrant drink. It calms you immensely, and you take a sip gratefully. "Thank you, Namjoon-ssi."
Namjoon nods, taking a sip of his own tea and clearing his throat. "I'm sorry for this evening," he begins, so formal that it makes you a bit uncomfortable. "I suspected that Kang Chul's was affiliated with Bigbang, but couldn't confirm it. When we figured out that Song Gowon was holed up there, I thought it would be worth the risk to catch him. It was a miscalculation on my part."
You shake your head vigorously. "No, it wasn't your fault. I'm sorry I couldn't do what you asked of me." Eyes falling to your cup, shame weighs on your chest. You shiver, placing your hands on the warm mug.
"I believe it was for the best." Namjoon shows a small, sympathetic smile. "You did manage to knock him out, and that's no small feat. Song Gowon was a danger to all of us. His fate was necessary and deserved." There's a bit of a dark edge in Namjoon's voice at that last word, a layered look in his eyes, but you don't dare ask about it.
"But you couldn't question him," you say softly. "Bigbang knows where we are and we have nothing to retaliate with."
"We have counter-measures already in place," Namjoon assures. "Honestly, we were getting to comfortable here. It's about time for us to move."
"Move?" Your voice comes out awkwardly loud, and Namjoon laughs.
"Yes. We're leaving the Complex."
"Is that... possible with such a big group?"
"Think of it as downsizing," Namjoon answers. "I've been wanting to take this organization in a new direction, and all of us being concentrated around one building is detrimental to that."
Your mind whirrs into overdrive. What sort of new direction is he talking about? Namjoon sees the unasked questions hanging on your lips, but he simply takes a sip of his tea before dismissing the subject completely. "You don't need to worry about semantics. What I wanted to tell you was that, in my eyes, your mission was a success. I'll be adjusting your debt accordingly."
