You could have done anything with your life. Really, you could have. You were intelligent, beautiful, had the world at your fingertips, and you decided to take the path less traveled by women. You left home in the dead of night and traveled in Westeros. You trained with the best of men and woman warriors, honing your skills to perfection. You didn't think you'd ever become a murderer-for-hire, but that's what happened.
"What is it you want me to do, Your Grace?" you asked Cersei. You were positive you didn't hear her correctly. "I want you to find Arya Stark and bring King Joffrey her head." You arched a brow and gripped the hilt of your sword tighter. "It shouldn't be a problem for someone of your unique skill set, should it?" You pondered for a moment. Surely you could find a little girl without issue. So, you accepted the commission.
*time skip*
As it turned out, finding a little girl lost in the world was more difficult than you thought. You did eventually track down Arya, in Braavos. More specifically, in the House of Black and White, the temple of the Many-Faced God. You knew it was going to take a lot more effort to get to her now. She was surrounded by Faceless Assassins and you couldn't sneak past them easily. Instead, you decided to observe for a while. You didn't think you'd be caught.
The longer you followed after Arya, the less invested you became in killing her. She reminded you of yourself. Determined. She wanted revenge for her family. She trained hard and, even when she failed, she got back up and tried again. She impressed you.
"A woman should have more stealth." You jumped and spun around, your dagger immediately going to his neck. How had he managed to sneak up on you? A man with red and white-streaked hair stood there, his blue eyes trained on you. You instantly recognized him as the one training Arya. You should have been afraid, but you weren't. You had the upper hand, for the moment anyway.
"From where I'm standing, it's you who should have more stealth." He smirked at you before grabbing your wrist and spinning you so your back was pressed against his chest, the dagger now at your throat. "A woman should not underestimate a Faceless Man." You reared your head back, catching him off guard. He let you go and you fished another knife from your cloak. You threw it and pinned his robes to the wall behind him. You stepped forward and got in his face. "Perhaps a Faceless Man shouldn't underestimate a Westerosi woman."
He smirked and bowed his head. Quickly he pulled the knife from his robes and handed both back to you. "A woman has talent." You gingerly took your daggers back and regarded the man curiously. "A woman was sent to the kill the girl," he said. His voice was suddenly serious. You glanced back at Arya over your shoulder.
"Yet, a woman has not done so. Even with plenty of opportunity." You turned to face him again. You'd been caught and now you had a decision to make. Kill both the girl and the Faceless Man to cover up your secret or don't and have to run from Cersei for the rest of your life. You were torn. Assassination was your life now, but it was theirs too. Would you even stand a chance?
"I-I can't. She is an innocent. She has done nothing to incur Joffrey's wrath, nothing to deserve being killed," you admitted. Normally, it wouldn't have mattered, but then again, you weren't normally hired to kill children. "Are only the guilty murdered? Does death come only for them?" You scoffed. "Of course not, but I will not kill an innocent as long as I have a choice."
The man seemed to watch your face as you spoke. "Ah, a woman has passion. It will serve her well." You rolled your eyes a little then you met his gaze once more. Once again, you were slightly torn. Could you really leave him alive now that he knew you? "Will you allow me to leave Braavos and never say a word about seeing me? Or am I going to have to take your life?" you asked him. You had a feeling he would appreciate your straight-forwardness.
"A woman is free to leave is she wishes." You nodded and turned to leave. His voice stopped you. "Or she could join the Faceless. Become No One and serve the Many-Faced God." You let your mind wander over the possibilities for a moment. He was offering you a chance to stay and train more. A chance to become more than just an assassin.
You looked back at him. "And if I choose to stay in Braavos, but not join you?" The man merely smiled. "Then this one will have no choice but to observe a woman. If only to make certain she does not cause trouble in Braavos." You laughed lightly. "Then I look forward to seeing you again. What's your name so that I have something to call you when we met again?"
"This one has the honor to be Jaqen H'ghar. Does a woman have a name?" You smirked and turned away again. "I do, but I leave it to you to figure out. I'm certain it won't take long. Until then, Jaqen H'ghar." With that, you walked off, leaving Jaqen to stare after you with a look of amazement written on his face.
