Gabriel had been at the end of his string when he backed down off of his plans, but the following years worked out better for him than he could have imagined. The negative publicity instantly swung into positive and created a business boom as old customers replaced their incinerated merchandise, and new consumers who had never bought from him before suddenly thought it was cool to wear clothing with such a dramatic story behind it.
His son continued to date the baker's daughter, the spark of their relationship returning quickly once they had no reason to be together othet than wanting to be. Gabriel even found himself on cordial terms with her parents, though he did get in the occasional tiff with them over giving his son foods that weren't on his strict diet.
When the kids' high school graduation rolled around, he surprised Marinette with another offer to pay her college expenses, this time without strings attached. It was the least he could do in thanks for the popularity surge his company was still riding the tail end of. He did, however, express that he would be disappointed in her if she took that talent to any of his competitors. She emphatically promised she wouldn't.
But today was the overly sugary icing on the cake. "Don't you feel silly now, that you fought so hard to prevent this?" Gabriel Agreste asked Tom Dupain as the two men watched their now young adult progeny share their first kiss as a married couple. Sabine was at Tom's other side, wich just mad Gabriel wish that Adrien's mother could have been there to witness too.
"What are you talking about?!" Tom scoffed "I fought for this. Their right to choose who they wanted to marry. Now, my daughter and your son have chosen each other."
At first, Gabriel didn't see how it made a bit of difference. The same two people had gotten married. The same two families had been joined. The next decade was sure to see the birth of the same children it already would have been destined to see. However, on closer examination of his son and brand-new daughter-in-law, Gabriel couldn't miss the elation exuding from every pore. On the first try, they'd been merely resigned to the idea of getting married. This difference was sure to follow them the rest of their lives.
Up by the altar, Adrien and Marinette pulled apart and staired into each other's eyes, not quite believing what had happened. They'd each done it a few times before, then woken up and discovered it a dream. They half expected that to happen again, but in their dreams, no one had interrupted their focus on each other. Reality was different, Nino came and slapped Adrien on the back. "You did it Dude! You're married!"
"Hehe, yeah." Adrien ran his fingers through his hair, messing up what had been meticulously done that morning by professional hair dressers, and making himself look a little more like his alter ego. A/n - Or on his wedding day, does that make it his altar ego O.O I came way too close to mixing up these words. He accepted a hug from Nino, and then turned to watch as Alya practically pounced on Marinette, his wife. That fact was going to take a little getting used to.
"So, Mrs. Agreste, how's it feel? You've been talking about this day for how long now? Did you ever even get a smoothie date with him? You've got your house all ready to move into, now you just need a dog, a cat, a hamster, and in a few years, Emma, Louis, and Hugo!"
Embarrassed, Marinette clamped a hand over Alya's mouth. During their engagement, Adrien and Marinette had confirmed they would like to have children together, but she still hadn't mentioned the names she had picked out far prematurely. She glanced over at her husband to see if he'd heard. Fortunately, he was too preoccupied with his own best friend's attention to notice, but unfortunately, someone else had heard.
Manon came bounding up. "Mommy said your name is 'Marinette Agreste' now. Is that true?"
The bride, and the younger female's former babysitter nodded. Manon was only nine now, and so was still selected for the position of flower girl. She didn't get to see Marinette as often anymore, because she was now allowed to stay home alone for a few hours at a time. However, she still wasn't quite up to the level of looking out for a younger human being yet.
"Yes. Yes it is." In her mind, Marinette's maiden name, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, still had the right ring to it, but on her finger, a different sort of ring insisted otherwise.
"Now you're going to have kids and I get to be their babysitter!" Manon yelled.
"Not yet, Manon," Marinette shook her head "maybe in two or three years. I still have a lot more to discuss with Adrien."
As soon as he heard his name, Adrien wanted in on the conversation. "What about me?"
"Marinette says you'll be having kids in two years!" Manon informed him.
"I said two or three years, maybe." Marinette assured her husband "That's not a decision I'd ever try to leave you out of."
"Mm, sounds about right." He wrapped his arms around her waist "Now, we've got a lot of guests to thank. What do you say, Bugaboo?"
"I say you need to be careful about calling me that in public." She whispered to him "No one needs to know this was Ladybug's and Chat Noir's wedding day as well."
They spent a good while going around hand in hand, greeting their many guests. They'd become something of a celebrity couple, even in civilian form, and were disgusted to learn that wedding crashers outnumbered legitimate attendees. Even Chloe came to hug them, offering a confusing medley of backhanded complements that had become her style in the last few years.
After a long and tiring day, they finally made it to their new home. They weren't even going to ask how his father had procured the same house they had picked out before as a wedding present for them, they knew it hadn't been on the market all this time.
They had convinced all their family and friends that they weren't in the least interested in a honeymoon, that they just wanted to settle into their new life together. Secretly, they thought it would have been nice, but the real reason was that Ladybug and Chat Noir could never take a day off. Their superhero jobs kept them on their toes, but they couldn't really complain, it was through their job they'd acquired each other. Today they elected to make it known their partner was utterly taken, but that was them submitting to an order decided upon the day they met.
Even if they hadn't known it, their fate was sealed before his father ever tried to meddle. Unknowingly, they'd lost ownership of themselves to each other the moment they donned some seemingly harmless accessories. Betrothed by their miraculouses: theirs was truly a Love by Design.
The End
A/n - Done! I decided to speed up the release of these chapters so that the final chapter would be on the day I officially become an adult. I am now 18, but I don't think much is going to change right away.
I don't think I'm going to start another full length fan-fiction any time soon, but I am writing lots of one-shots. I would greatly appreciate reads and comments on that book, including both positive and negative feedback.
Lastly, I invite all role-players to join in on F.A.N.D.O.M. It already has an active Miraculous Ladybug role-play going, and I hope to get role-plays going for other fandoms as well.
Hope to see you somewhere!
