I remember completely when I first met her, I was young and naive, shy but excited. It was the first time I'd been in lessons with other tutor groups and, as much as I made myself out as quiet and confiding, I was happy to see new faces. It was geography, a subject I have come to like mainly due to the moments I've had. I s sat as the only boy from Darwin house on my table. I was alone, but maybe that's the most exciting part. To feel the edge of something new.
At the time, I hadn't had much excitement in my life. I was used to being your usual smart ass that says way too much and isn't very interesting and, as you can imagine, I therefore wasn't very good with people. But that day I started a long journey in my life that shaped who I am. All starting in a boring lesson about Africa.
