October. Bright and cold as a pocket of pins. Mirae walked down the narrow street and stopped right in front of an abandoned 2 story building.
It's been abandoned for quite some time already and no one dared to go into the building.
Said that it's haunted by a wandering soul and it never goes away. It's like the building is its home.
But Mirae never trusted them. "Bullshit!" She spatted out when one of her classmates told her that if one goes into the building, they never came out.
Now she's going to prove that they're wrong and there's no wandering soul in here.
Mirae stared at the building before inhaling and exhaling her breath. "This is it Han Mirae. You can do this!" She whispered-yelled to herself.
She stepped into the building and got scared when she heard the sound of rustled leaves. She looked down and chuckled. It was her who stepped on the leaves.
She looked around and examined the building. There's nothing in there except for some broken windows which allow some light in.
"Now that I'm here already, it's not even that daunting pshh." Mirae mumbled. She continued her little exploration.
The building was nothing like what she imagined it to be. It's not dark like those haunted buildings you see in movies instead there's plenty of light in the building.
Of course, there are spider webs. It's not a haunted building if there's no spider webs and lots of dust.
Mirae started coughing and sneezing when the wind blew the dust towards her direction. She groaned in frustration when she couldn't find her handkerchief.
So she just used her hand to cover her nose and mouth. She walked around the ground floor and proceeded to climb up the stairs after finding nothing.
"Geez, this place is nothing but plain boring." She mumbled to herself again.
There's nothing on the second floor except for a desk and a bookshelf. Mirae walked closer towards the desk and examined it.
The wind blew once again causing Mirae to start sneezing again. "Oh wow, the spirit must've hated my presence so much."
She walked away from the desk. There's nothing on it anyway. Mirae had to admit the building is quite spacious but there's nothing in it except for the things she mentioned. And oh the ghost might be in there too.
As Mirae was walking around taking pictures to show it to her classmates, she saw a small door and her being her decided that to open it.
She twisted the doorknob, praying that there wouldn't be any skeletons or weird things beyond the door. But when she opened it, there are stairs.
"Oh." She debated whether to go up the stairs or close back the door and leave. But judging from her personality, Mirae wouldn't let go of these kinds of things quickly.
She didn't know where the stairs would lead her yet she was so excited she almost fell. "I almost died oh god."
There's another door and she opened it, revealing the rooftop. "Meh, I thought it was a secret passageway." She frowned.
She took out her phone from her pocket and was about to take some pictures of the rooftop but a voice stopped her.
"What are you doing?" Mirae turned around and saw a boy around her age walking towards her.
"Oh um well... I came here because I wanted to.." She trailed.
"You wanted to..." The boy walked closer to her making her stepping backwards. Mirae didn't realize how far she went backwards until her back hit the edge of the rooftop.
She looked down and realized how high her position was. Although it was just a 2 story building, it's still tall.
The boy was still walking slowly towards her. "Don't come closer or I'll-"
"You'll what?"
"I'll uh kill you. Yes! I'll choke you with my choker!" She took her choker out of her neck and threatened him.
The boy chuckled and continued walking towards her. "Go on then." He said calmly.
"Don't test me, little boy."
"Try me, little girl." He's so close to Mirae, she felt like she's going to fall off the rooftop anytime soon.
He could be a rapist or a serial killer. Or worst, he could be the wandering soul they've been talking about all these time.
'No no. Ghosts don't come out during the day.' Her internal monologue debated. Mirae shut her eyes tightly and wished she never came to this building in the first place.
She waited for the boy to push her off the building but nothing happened. Mirae opened her eyes slowly and there's no one in front of her or at the rooftop.
"Was I hallucinating?" Mirae asked herself. She slapped her face and pinched her arm. "I'm sure there's someone else here just now."
She shook her head, not believing her eyes. Then it hit her. "Could that guy possibly be the-" Mirae covered her mouth, her eyes widening at the sudden realization.
No words were needed. Mirae ran and ran until she knows that she's finally out of the building. She kept running but she never looked back.
Mirae stopped when she's far away from the building. She panted so hard she could hardly breathe. "T-this is prob-ably my exercise of the y-year." She chuckled.
"I swear oh my god I'm never going to that building again! That was so-" Her words stopped when she realized that the once blue sky is turning into a salmon one.
"Oh no. Not again." She had to sprint again because it's getting late and her parents might be wondering about her whereabouts.
She reached her house before the sky turned dark but it's too late. Her mom was already waiting for her at the doorstep.
She stopped and gave her mom a grin. "Young lady where have you been all day?! Do you know how worried I am? At least give me a call!" Her mom blabbered.
"Sorry! I mean uh my phone battery was dead and I had some errands to do. So that's why." She explained hoping that her mom would believe her.
Her mom let her pass for this time. She sang herself to sleep, too tired and drained out. Just a short lullaby. She didn't even want to think about what happened earlier.
