"Do you believe in love at first sight?" Michel said into the phone, sounding almost disinterested.
"Well of course I do, but I do not see how this applies to what is happening with George." Lafayette said with an exasperated sigh as he spoke to his brother.
"Well then that solves it, we've cracked the case."
"Michel, I've known him for maybe, oh I don't know, 48 hours. Even that is stretching the whole 'love at first sight' thing."
"Well you asked for my opinion. There it is. You're in love with your American college professor that you've only known for a day or so."
Lafayette rubbed his temples. "Tell mother I wish her a good day." And with that, Lafayette hung up the phone on what he deemed to be a very unhelpful brother.~~~~~
Lafayette sighed as he stared over at George, him sitting on the couch and George at the dining room table with his work supplies scattered around himself.
Lafayette kept thinking back to the phone call he had nearly a week before with his brother, Michael. Long story short, Lafayette insists that he has zero feelings for professor.
Lafayette should've been doing his homework, for school had just started up a few days ago. He was already behind on all the assignments Professor Washington has given his class.
Lafayette let out a loud groan which grabbed the attention of the Virginian a few meters away.
"Everything okay?" George asked, placing his pen down and closing his laptop for a moment.
"Yeah, everything's just perfect." Lafayette replied with a sigh. He couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with not only his homework, but his feelings for George. Ever since the call with Michael there seems to be this growing tingling sensation within Lafayette's stomach whenever he spoke to George. It was like his insides were doing summersaults within himself.
"Have you started the paper I've assigned?" George asked after a moment of silence.
"Oh yeah! Definitely!" Sarcasm dripped out of Lafayette's mouth as he spoke those words.
"You should get it done. It's 5 pages and due in a week." George hummed out as he clicked his pen repeatedly. "I bet Alexander has his paper done."
The mention of Alexander Hamilton made Lafayette's stomach churn. That man was always sucking up to George at any chance he got. It was almost like Alexander was trying to steal George away from him.
Don't get him wrong, he liked Alex. The way that Alex fit into their small group of misfit friends was perfect. Not to mention it was nice knowing someone who was an immigrant just like he was. It made him quite happy.
The one thing he didn't like about Alexander was his constant attempts to suck up to George at any chance he got. It made him feel things he should never feel towards a close friend. It made him feel malicious jealousy. Every time he watched Alex leave his hands lingering on George's a bit to long when handing in a paper or when Alex was the only once in class who could put input in to George's meaningless rambles.
It hurt him that such a close friend could do that to him. Then again, Alex probably didn't even know about Lafayette's feelings for the professer; and he had no right to blame Alex for all of it. It didn't make it hurt any less, though.
He tried not to think about it for too long. He knew that when he got mad his face got all red, he didn't want George seeing that.
"Yeah, I bet he does." Was all Lafayette responded with, a slight pout beginning to form on his plump lips.
"You know I'd love to help you, but I can't. Considering I'm the professor and all." George shrugged, continuing to click his pen until Lafayette turned his head fast and stared straight at George.
Lafayette couldn't stop thinking about what his brother told him. It was like that was all that was going through his head. It even surpassed his jealous thoughts of Alexander.
Everything Michael had said was slowly starting to eat him up on the inside and he wanted, no, needed to hear George's opinion on it.
"Do you believe in love at first sight?" He asked out of no where, his face littered with curiosity as he looked at George's button up.
"I mean, yeah I guess so. Why do you ask?" The Virginian's eyebrows furrowed as he stared back at Lafayette. He couldn't help but think about how strange the question was, considering they were just talking about homework.
"Um... uh... Just in regards to a conversation I had with friend from class." Lafayette aggressively bit his bottom lip and looked at George's cheek instead of those dark eyes. He was a horrendous liar. He just hoped George didn't pick up on it.
"Oh yeah? And which friend is this? I can't imagine Hercules would say anything about love like this to you." George hummed out, an eyebrow raising as he looked at the Frenchman.
George knew all of Lafayette's friends so it would be impossible to lie. "Oh, you know. It just came up." Lafayette said as he shifted a bit.
George let out one of his deep chuckles. "I bet Alexander mentioned it. He is always talking about something crazy like that. Like the other day when we went out and got coffee, he-"
"You went and got coffee with him?!" Lafayette interrupted George as fast as he could. "Why?"
"He just wanted to talk to me a bit." George hummed out. "But anyways.."
George's words seemed to melt away as Lafayette thought about it. Maybe Alex really was into George like that. It pained him to think that way.
Lafayette knew he would need to do something, something to tell Alex to somehow back off just a bit. Lafayette pulled his phone out to send a quick text.
Lunch. The cafe on campus. Now.
"Sorry, George I've got to go." Lafayette stood up, grabbing his bag and slipping his shoes onto his feet.
"I'll tell you the rest when you get home. Be safe." George called out right as Lafayette made his way out of the house.
George leaned back and sighed.
