Natemare didn't talk to Mat for three days after that. He just stood there, in a dark corner, and watched him.

Finally, one day he said: "You can go outside for one hour. That's it."

Releaf swept over Mat. He got to go outside!

Natemare undid Mat's bonds and dragged him to the outdoors.

Mat discovered that they were in a warehouse, not a basement like his originally thought.

The sun was bright and it hurt Mat's eyes. He blinked for a moment. 

Natemare looked at him. "I have to do something. I'll be back soon." And he walked off.

Mat watched him go.

He looked around the courtyard he was standing. It was empty.

He couldn't even hear sounds of the city.

Mat sighed and walked around the courtyard for a while.

He stopped, and closed his eyes, leaning his face up to the sun.

Then he felt two hands on his shoulders. He turned around quickly.

"Stephanie?"
