Chapter 1
"Paris can you teach me how to do those backflips you did today?", asks Chloe, my favorite 9th grader, as I walk to my bus."Sure, we can start tomorrow at practice!" I reply, giving her my best encouraging smile.
As I climb onto my bus I see there aren't as many empty seats as I hoped, but as usual lots of kids offered a seat to me. I decide to sit with one of my best friends, Jada. As soon as
I sit she congratulates me on a job well done at the pep rally."Those flips you hit were on point girl" she says.
"Thanks Jay! Believe it or not I was really nervous. I'm so blessed to be an individual that doesn't show it or I probably would've sucked bad!"
During our 10 minute ride home we talked about our day at school and teased with a few other kids on the bus. When I get off the bus I take my time walking home. I never want to go in that house when my stepfather is home. Luckily, I see that his car isn't in the driveway. A smile covers my faces immediately and I pick up my pace.
I pull out my Mickey Mouse house keys to unlock the door. As I walk in the house the great smell of food hits me. The thought of my mom being home and food cooking was great!
I throw my bag down and walk in the kitchen. My smile erased from my face quicker than you could count to one.
That's not my mother at all!
