I still wasn't convinced that Sasha was a best friend thief. To make the title shorter, I still wasn't convinced that Sasha was a bitch. I mean-she was so sweet and kind and chatty when we met and then...this crazy story came up and it was messing with my mind...and our friendship.
That morning, as I walked to school, I wondered why Sasha didn't come to my place so the two of us could walk to school together. I didn't care. When I first came to Heathclift High, I didn't want friends. I didn't need friends. So why care now?.
As I walked into the school, I resolved not to talk to Sasha ever again. But when I saw her by her locker, I knew I had to talk to her.
"Why didn't you come to my house today?" I asked her, closing her locker.
She squinted at me. "Hello to you too."
I rolled my eyes. "Hello Sasha. Now answer my question."
She blinked and held her book tightly.
" I just...I thought you didn't...want me as a best friend anymore. Or even a friend. I wanted things to rest between us so I...I decided to allow you to...gather your thoughts. To decide.""So you just bailed on me? Why didn't you deny what that girl said? Is it true?"
"Jade-"
"Answer me. I'm new, so I dunno who to believe. Is it true?"
Just then, the bell rang.
"I-I have to go now." She said, averting my eyes. I furrowed my brows.
"We have the same class, Sasha."
"Y-yeah, that's why we should go." She swiftly turned around and began to walk at a fast pace. I had to jog to catch up with her, and for the rest of the class, she didn't look at me.
____________
After class, I ran up to Zoey.
"Hey! Wait!" She turned around.
"Wha-? New girl."
"I have a name, you know."
"And I have a class."
"I know...I just....can we talk later?"
"Seriously, are you a lesbian?"
"....No...I just want answers."
"To what?"
I rolled my eyes. "Questions, obviously."
"I get that. Fine. Lunch break."
"O..Okay."
"And Jade?"
"Yeah?"
She smirked. "I don't have anything against lesbians, if that's what you think."
I stood, shocked. Did Zoey like me?
_____________
During lunch, I couldn't make up my mind on meeting Zoey. I did not want her to start liking me. I had way too many things on my mind, and I wasn't even sure I had any room in my heart to date. Nope. I didn't.I saw Sasha sitting at another table and not our table as usual. All thoughts of Zoey were pushed out of my mind when I saw Sasha. I went up to her and sat down. (With my lunch)
"Hey, Sasha." She furrowed her brows when she saw me.
"Hi...?"
"Why are you avoiding me?"
"Aren't you supposed to be mad at me or something?"
"Well, if it's true..." I waited for her to comment, but she didn't. I sighed.
"Well? Is it true?! Why can't you just say something? Why can't you deny or own up?. I thought you were my friend." I said, getting up. Just at the last moment, Sasha held my arm. I was surprised to see her eyes filled up with tears.
"P-please just sit down, OK?." I sat down.
"But I need answers, Sasha. I can't continue like this. We have to have no secrets between us. And this is a huge secret. I need to know if it's true or not."
" I-We'll talk, OK? But not here. How about my place? Six?"
I stared at her, then I turned to my food.
"Yeah, OK. I guess so." She turned to me and smiled, but I didn't smile back.
😚😚😚😚😚
6:00pmAs I walked to Sasha's house, I thought about how happy my Dad looked when I told him I was going out to see 'a friend'. He thought I was making progress. Like, allowing people in. Well, I was, in some ways. I wasn't wearing lots of black anyway so I didn't look like one of the goth kids and I was really starting to add color to my cheeks. Where all this came from, I didn't know the source. I guess I just...had a better relationship with my Dad. And a new friend in just a week. It felt...good. I still yearned to learn what happened to my mom, but that could wait.
I knocked on Sasha's door and she opened it.
"Hi," She said.
"Hey."
"I was expecting you."
"It's 6:10. Of course you were." She grinned, but then her smile wiped off and I sighed.
"Uh-come in." She said.
I stepped into the house and looked around. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled really nice and earthy.
"I like the smell of your house," I said. She giggled.
"Sure you do. Let's go to my room."
"OK. Are your parents at home?"
"No, they went out. They'll be back soon."
"Don't you have siblings?"
"Yup. My little sister, Jennifer and my little brother, Steven. Jennifer and Steven are so close. They're a year apart." I smiled.
"You must really love them."
"I do. They're annoying...but cute."
"I'm an only child." Sasha smiled.
"That should be nice."
"Well...no, actually. It gets lonely sometimes. But It's OK."
"Cool. Now let's go upstairs, I guess." I started following her up the stairs.
"Yeah."
