Chapter 2
The car ride was long. I saw so many things I had never experienced before and I loved all of it. I saw animals in the sky, with arms covered in theses things that Clarissa had once called feathers. They looks amazing!!!
Kevin and San had been talking to me about what it would be like at their home. They told me I had my own room, and then tomorrow we would go to this place called a store to buy me my own bed! I was ecstatic about it, for I'd never had my own bed before.
They told me then we would go to a different store to buy me clothes and toys. They said it was at a place called Floormart, whatever that was. I would also get these things I notice more and more people had as we got closer and closer to their home. Things covered their feet.
"What are those things covering your feet Sam?" I had asked him as we seemed to be very close by how hard Kevin had to try to keep in his seat.
"They are called shoes Chad. People wear them to protect their shoes. Don't tell me you've never had shoes." He replied to me, keeping his eyes on the smooth pavement used to drive on.
I shook my head. He sighed and then smiled at Kevin. I looked out my window. We were pulling up at the lightest colored house that I could see for a while.
"Welcome to your new home Chad!!!" Kevin told me enthusiastically. I smiled widely as he picked me up and walked up the stairs leading to the door. Sam opened it for him, but covered my eyes so I couldn't see anything.
When he finally took his hands away I opened my eyes. This was the place I would live, for the next 5 years of my life anyway. The walls were a pale grey, and the paint wasn't pealing unlike Matilda's. There were people on the walls, in boxes. They didn't move, just stared. I felt a bit uneasy about them.
Kevin carried me around more, showing me the house.
"Here is our family room." He said, showing me around a room that looked like the parlor in the orphanage, but the furniture was nice, it was together, almost as if it was recently bought. The parlor at Matilda's had chairs with broken legs, and cloths covering most of them.
He brought me into the next room. "This is our play area!" Sam told me. I looked around it, the walls were a slight shade darker than the family room, and had furniture similar to it too. The same kind of long cushioned chair, and short table in front of it. The difference was across from the long chair was a large price at dark glass, it was the darkest thing in the room.
Next he brought me to a room he called the dinning room. There was a long table with benches on either of the long sides, with chairs on the shorter ends. One of the spots had a pile of pillows, I wondered why they would need that.
"This is where we make our food, and eat on normal days." Sam had told me. It made me think the long table was for special occasions. There were counters and an oven, as well as a refrigerator. Just like Matilda's, but once again, everything here was a lot nicer. There was even a smaller table close to the corner with three chairs around it.
"And finally..." Kevin said as they started walking up the stairs from the play area, "your room!" Him and San said in unison. The room was empty.
"What's a room?" I had asked, even though I knew what it was. I'd just never had one all to myself before.
"Chad? Have you had a room? A place to sleep all by yourself, or with another child from the orphanage?" Sam replied, asking more questions. It made my head slightly hurt from all the words.
"Not to myself, the room I'd sleep in had all of the other boys in it, and the girls had their own room. There was more boys though. We all had small pillows to rest our heads on, and thin cloths to cover our bodies with if we ever got cold. We always got cold. The cloths were never enough so we would usually all cuddle up together to keep warm. The floor hurt my back though..." I respond, ranting on and on. My 'Dads' look at each other and then take me to their room.
"This is a bed. It is what we buy for you soon, you sleep on it. And it's much better than the floor." Kevin told me, setting me down. I loved the feelings of this object, this bed. I felt cozy and cuddled with the thick cloth on it. I asked what it was and they called it a blanket. I felt myself getting sleepy, and started to doze off. I noticed them get into bed with me, Sam on my left, and Kevin my right.
They both hold me and it reminds me of when we would cuddle for warmth at the orphanage. It makes me smile, and I fall asleep...
