"I like you." Repeatedly she mumbled underneath her breath. But then again, she rolled her eyes, kicked the wall and ruffled after she grabbed her hair.
"Is it always this hard to confess?" She thought as she sighed and squatted behind the wall while picking up small rocks and throwing it away.
"Why can't I just say I like you? directly without this nervousness? I'm hopeless." She calmed herself. Took a deep breath and smiled confidently. "I can do that." Self-assurance boosted her confidence.
She walked towards the spot to carry out her plan. It is the usual path where this someone usually walks everytime. Her heart is harshly throbbing against her chest.Perspiring too much, while her hands are shaking, she waited and waited.
She heaved another deep sigh as she gathered all the strength she needed, tightly gripping on the letter. Harshly she stood and briskly walked straight and turned in the curve, closing her eyes, praying to god it will turn out to be all right when she suddenly bumped unto the wall, hurting her nose in the process.
"Once a klutz always a klutz." she said in disdained. She massaged her nose as she was stretching out her free hand in front of her with the letter when someone took the letter. She heared a whisper , "Another boring confession."
She immediately lift her gaze and stared at the person in front of her. It was no other than, Leeam, the Supreme Student Council President and the top 1 in their class. The guy she was supposed to profess her feelings to.
This Leeam-person is reading her letter with a serious face right now. He immediately took a red pen after a while, trampling on her letter at the same time writing something on it.
"When you use a singular noun, use a singular verb and for the plural noun use a plural verb. Be careful on your tenses. Most importantly, review the subject-verb agreement. Tsk tsk tsk." Leeam said in a monotone while shaking his head from left to right without throwing a gaze at her. Before she could even react, the guy placed the letter in her hand and walked away like nothing happened.
She cried out in frustration as she saw the red ink all over her loveletter. The guy she liked, just corrected her grammar. What could be the worst?
She looked at the letter once more and crampled it. She worked on it whole night, and this was all she got from all the hardwork?
For the past 2 weeks she did nothing but glare at the SSC President whose seat is at the front row, across the room. "I think I still like him but hate him more." She thought as she was clenching her jaw and gritting her teeth.
"That nincompoop. That heartless jerk. That self proclaimed mighty, loser. That stupid punk." She called him names in her head while ending every sentences with: "the guy I liked." She just decided to burry her head in the desk. When her name was suddenly called: "Ms. Emerson?"
"Miss Emerson?"
"Miss Emerson?"
"Miss Emerson?"She suddenly snapped out and faced reality. Her japanese class professor, looked at her with a disappointed look.
"Please translate this japanese text to english."
The sentence "Watashi wa anata o aishite imasu" was written on the board. Having no clue, she politely declined to answer, and sat in humiliation.
She can read them, however, translating it is way too difficult.
Her japanese teacher called Leeam out. "Please read the sentence and tell Ms. Roa the translation in english."
She rolled her eyes while giving a deadly stare at Leeam, the SSC president.
"Watashi wa anata o aishete imasu." He read it carefully then turned his gaze at Emerson while smiling.
It strucked her for a minute, and the world suddenly stopped. Only her breathing is distinct and the guy uttered the words, "I love you."
The class was filled with indistinct chatter and whispers while the teacher dismissed them after sometime.
She's still there, dumbfounded and starstrucked, only looking at the guy in shock.
"Were those words for me? Or.. was he insulting me?" She thought to herself, with her cheeks burning now in anger or is it because she's blushing?
She then saw Leeam approaching. "Hey dimwit. It's part of the lesson. Don't be too obvious." He said, smirking at her and walking slowly, leaving her unresponsive because of disappointment.
Leeam stopped after he was almost way passed her.
"Before I forgot, this is how you write a letter." He said while getting something out from his pocket. Once done, he handed it to her. She looked through it gently, only to find an empty sheet of paper.
"No words could ever correctly describe how someone feels, and no metaphors can ever compare to how beautiful those feelings were. I prefer actions rather than words."
Leeam then reached out and held Emerson's hand, took another step forward, looked at her gently with a smile plastered on his face while uttering,
"Letter Rejected." ❤
