Chapter 3

*Cassandras P.O.V*

I was in real deep trouble. Aunt Beth wouldnt budge or negotiate through all my hard work of trying to keep her safe. I think she would rather die than face our home again, but to this I dont know why. What confused me the most was she wasnt scared at all. She stayed calm through everything even after I dropped to my knees and begged her to come with me. I decided I would not leave her to die, if she was foolish enough to stay here, then so am I. I stayed by her side looking everywhere for threats. I needed to protect her and fight before I give my last breath.

Standing in a fighting position I used my ears as far as its ability would let me go. As far as I knew no one was near us yet. Although I could hear the sobs comming from the young ones in the little building next to us. All was quiet after that. It was terrifying not knowing what would come to us or what would even happen. The sun was high up in the sky and the heat radiating off of it wasnt helping me concentrate either. Even the glare of the sun set my eyes watering while im trying to figure out what is around me. The stone buildings all looked intimidating making me feel like a trapped animal inside a tiny cage. I needed to find somewhere to hide or to find a way to make sure the knights dont see us. Covering my eye's from the sun's glare and taking deep breaths to cool the andreline running through my veins I looked at Aunt Beth. She was dazed out again and this time I really didnt care right now. All I cared about was our safety.

"We need to get out of here". I said to her. She snapped out of her dazed expression and said "Oh Cassandra, My time is over now I've been avoiding it for ahwhile and now its caught up to me." After she said that she sat down and played with the pebbles on the dry dusty ground. I sighed but kept my gaurded stance. I wouldnt want someone to charge at us with my gaurds down. I knew we were going to die but id rather die fighting than letting me become some meat ready to be butchered. If only Aunt Beth were to listen to me when i said we needed to leave. As I was listening to the sounds all around me I heard the caw of a crow over us. I was ready to fight when the time came to it.

I could hear horses galloping, they were comming closer and closer to us. My heart was beating frantically but I knew my face didnt show it. Rule number one: Dont ever show your enemy your fear, it only fuels their eagerness. I knew this from the life I grew up in. I would never let them see my fear or pain. I would rather burn in hell than do that. The horses came to a stop but not too far away from where we were. Hearing the knights dissmantle of their horses I could hear their footsteps become a little farther away from us.

Where were they going? My thoughts were answered when I heard a whimper comming from what sounded like a woman. I guess she couldnt make it back to safety in time. But what had me curious was to why they kept her alive. The women started hesterically cry and beg for mercy. Foolish girl, she should know that they wont listen to her crys.

What were they doing with her?  Her cries were turned to quiet sobs. My mind was turning over all the things they could be doing to her. This poor woman was alone right now, but everytime I try to will myself to move, my body wont budge. Its like i'm paralyzed for whats to come. The horses started  to trot down the road again and I knew that we wont make it alive, But I always knew.

I didnt know what to do. Should I let them come? Or should I try run away? Maybe they wont catch me if I do. No, I shouldnt think like that and give myself false hope. They will catch me. theres no avoiding it. Ill just have to enjoy my last few seconds alive. I was hopeless. There was no way to escape the knights. Looking straight toward where I heard the horses galloping I saw one knight comming from around the corner. This was it the day where my life would end.

After the knights came toward us with their horses, they dropped down from them and started to slowly approach us. Their long confident strides and the smug looks on their face's tell me they know we wont be able to escape. At that relization I became angry. Very angry. They think they can do anything they want and not face the concequences to what they do to innocent people. As the knights stopped their gait I realized during my angry thoughts they had come very close to us. In fact too close for my likeing. From what I suppose the leader among the knights, came forward watching me too intently . The way he was watching me was giving me the most horrible feeling in my life. Was it fear? No way it cant be. Disgust? Most likely.

The knight behind the leader came forwards and grabbed me making me go onto my knees. I didnt like feeling helpless but there was no other way. They did the same thing to my Aunt Beth but placed her infront of me.  As I stared into her dark brown eyes I saw that she gave up a long time ago. she wasnt afraid to die, she was actually ready. Thinking she was giving up was one thing but knowing she was giving up was a hell lot different.

Looking back to the lead knight I saw he was grabbing his sword.  The feeling in my stomach dropped even lower than it already was. I knew this was going to end badly. The knight chuckled and stared right into my eyes. His stare was cold and unnerving. Breaking from his stare I looked towards Aunt Beth. She was dazed. Sitting on her knees like nothing was happening to her. Then suddenly the knight raised back his arm. sword in his hand, and swung it through Aunt Beths neck. Her body fell limp onto the gravel road and blood staing the dusty pebbles. I struggled trying to go see Aunt Beth. TI felt the knight advance on me and suddenly my head started to pound in pain. I couldnt take the pressure anymore so i closed my eyes ad waited for my death sentance.
