Chapter Two

Two Weeks Later
   
''Dr. Henderson. Is my brother going to be alright? It's been two weeks. Why have you kept him in a medically induced coma?'' I asked looking up from my book to meet his eye.
      
''Miss Thorn, I've explained this before. I'm not sure if Mr. Thorn is going to be okay. After all the two bullets both went through his left lung. I've had patients to fully recover from stuff like this and others who I thought was going to survive but died after they were took out of the coma. If you want to take that chance let me know and I'll take him off the meds but I think he has a better chance at being able to wake up himself because that means that he has built up enough strength to heal himself.'' Dr. Henderson said in a know it all tone.
       
''I understand. I won't ask you again. I'm sorry I took up your time. You can go now since toy don't want to be here.'' I said as I looked down at my big brother and knew that he would be alright. After all he had been in worse conditions.
       
''Miss Thorn I'm sorry if I upset you in any way. But I get paid to tell the truth.'' Dr. Henderson said and I got tired of listening to him.
       
''No. Doctor you get paid to help all of your patients. Not just check in on them once a week! I mean for goodness sakes I know that you are a busy man but really are you so self centered that you prioritize your patients by their ability to pay their bill! Just get out and get me a new doctor!'' I shouted at Dr. Henderson. He stared wide eyes at me for at least two minutes.
      
''Fine Miss Thorn. I'll get you another doctor. And then you'll be begging me to come back. And guess what I will not!'' He shouted at me before stomping out of the room and slamming the door behind him.
      
''Axel. Please just wake up already. I can't take this place much longer. Your doctor- no your old doctor is just awful. He was such a jerk. Why don't you just wake up already!'' I shouted at him.
      
''Hi. I'm Dr. Jared Davidson. I'm replacing Dr. Henderson. I take it your Miss Thorn. Correct?'' He asked as I looked up to see a man who couldn't be no older than I am. And I'm twenty. Dr. Davidson has dark brown eyes, short brown hair, and he is at least six foot I'm height.
      
''You are correct Dr. Davidson. And this is my brother Axel.'' I said motioning toward my brothers still form.
      
''You can just call me Dr. Jared or just Jared. If you would like that is. Okay now I'm going to take a couple of x-rays of your brothers lungs and see what the damage is. You can come with if you like.'' Dr. Jared said as he hooked my brothers respirator to a generator. ''Miss Thorn are you coming?'' He asked turning to face me.
       
''Yeah. I'm coming and please just call me Rosella.'' I said as an answer. Dr. Jared smiled as if he had accomplished something important. I followed him to the x-ray room. ''About how long is this going to take Dr. Jared?'' I decided to ask after a couple of seconds.
       
''I'm not completely sure but I would guess half an hour you don't have to stay if you don't want to. You know that right? Oh and just call me Jared.'' He said looking up at me.
      
''Okay. Jared. I'm gonna stay with my brother.'' I said looking around the tight space. ''Um. Jared were am I supposed to stand?'' I asked when I couldn't find a place that wouldn't be in the x-ray.
      
''You can stand by me back here.'' Jared said and I had a feeling he was treating me more like a friend than a patients sister. But I shrugged and walked to stand next to him. ''So if you don't mind my asking that is. How old are you? Any you don't have to answer of you don't want to.'' Jared asked as I thought, yup I was right.
       
''I'm twenty. Why would you like to know?'' I asked looking up at him to see his expression.
      
''Just figured that if you ever had time I could treat you to dinner. After all I'm only two years older than you.'' Jared said smiling at me. ''So can I?'' Jared asked.
     
''Sure I guess. I'm free tonight. If that's alright with you.'' I said smirking at the look of complete and absolute shock on his face.
     
''That'll work for me.'' He answered after a moment of silence. Then he started the x-rays. He took two or three and said, ''I guess we can take him back to his room now.'' We walked slowly back pushing Axel in between us. As Jared hooked up all the machines again I sat in silence watching. And for the first time since he was shot I began to believe that all would be okay. ''I'll be back in a few minutes after I get the x-rays. Then it'll be dinner time if that's okay.'' He said smiling at me as he walked out the door.
      
''Rosella? Are you there?'' Axel asked causing me to look down to see his brilliant blue blue eyes looking right at me.
      
''Axel!! I can't believe it your finally awake!'' I shouted giving him a careful hug. ''It's been two weeks. I thought you were never going to wake up. Not much has happened. They couldn't find Sean though they are still looking. I'm so glad you're awake.'' I said hugging him again.
     
''Me to. Should you call a doctor to tell them that I'm awake?'' Axel asked.
     
''No. Its fine Jared will be here in a couple of minutes. He's your new doctor. You did have a doctor named Henderson but he was being a jerk and quit being your doctor and replaced him with Dr. Jared Davidson. Jared is really nice. You'll like him.'' I said looking up at the door to see it open and Jared walk in. ''Hey, Jared. This is my brother he's awake. Isn't this great?'' I asked standing up.
        
''It is. My name is Dr. Jared Davidson. I'm your doctor. I just took some x-rays of your lungs where the bullets entered them. And they still have some damage to them. But if you can breath well enough I guess I can send you home tonight after the paper work that is. Is that okay Mr. Thorn?'' Jared asked looking away from me to address my brother.
       
''That's fine with me. I'm only a little sore. But I can live with that. Is Rosella alright I mean has she been eating right and all that? Because usually when she's worried she doesn't eat.'' Jared asked his doctor instead of me.
     
''Axel. I wish you wouldn't worry about me. Its useless. And yes I have been eating right. I mean why shouldn't I?'' I asked frustrated by his stupid question.
    
''Rosella calm down. Your brother was just asking a question. Its alright. Now why did you over react?'' Jared asked turning his dark brown eyes on me.
    
''Because I didn't over react. Okay maybe I did.'' I said when I got two disbelieving looks. ''But only a little bit. I 'over reacted' because he's recovering from two bullet wounds and he's not worrying about himself.'' I said looking away from them. ''And it was my fault that he got shot.'' I added looking at the floor.
    
''It was not!'' Axel screamed at me causing both me and Jared to jump. ''And Rosella you know that better than anyone in this room including me. Now I never want to hear another word about this. Got it?'' Axel asked looking me dead in the eye. I nodded for an answer.

''Good. Now I have a faint memory of what happened today including someone's dinner plans.'' Axel said surprising me and Jared. ''So are you to going are not I can stand one more night at this place. Go have fun. And Rosella sleep in a bed tonight I bet you've slept in that chair right there for the past two weeks and don't you deny it.'' Axel demanded.
       
''Well one I wasn't going to deny it because its true my cloths are in the closet. And two you can't tell me what to do no one can do that anymore. Not since Mom and dad died in the car accident two years ago.'' I said immediately feeling bad because I had brought it up.

''I'm sorry I had no right to say that. I should've kept my mouth shut.'' I said feeling like crap.
       
''No. Don't be sorry. Its true. Its just I still see you as a naive kid who was always in trouble. I'm sorry I believe in you after all you are a grown woman. Now go and have a nice night.'' Axel said and Jared and I all but ran out of the hospital room.
      
''So where are we going?'' I asked as we walked toward his car. He threw his arm around my shoulder and smiled his crooked smile.
      
''Its a surprise. I think you are going to enjoy it though.'' Jared said brown eyes twinkling with mystery in his tone of voice.
