That night things felt a little too chaotic. Lucy's head was constantly aching from all the booze but that didn't stop her from doing what she wanted. Gray had put Lucy's arm around him and carried her the rest of the way home.
"It's so ...hic... nice of you to..hic.. take me home" Lucy's words were like her steps that night, staggered and stumbled. Gray looked at her face, so soft and warm. He felt bad for Lucy. He was so used to her being pure and kind; he wasn't used to this drunk side of her, he had never even see her this bad before. He wondered if this was because of Natsu.
When they got to her front door Lucy unwrapped her arm from Grays' and collapsed onto the couch. Gray looked at her again, her soft face, her big eyes, her slightly messy hair. She still looked so pure despite the fact that she had one too many to drink. He contemplated on the idea of just leaving and letting her stay at home by herself. She's usually so lonely all the time, do I leave her? Who knows? She might hurt herself in this condition. She might even drink more! I should stay... He looked at her once again. Her hands are so delicate and small. She looks so beautiful. Her lips look so... kissable. He knew if he stayed he might not be able to control himself. But to be quite honest he had been lonely too.
For the longest time he had like there was a piece missing, nothing ever felt complete.
Lucy laid on the couch, half asleep and the other half starting to sober up. Lucy looked at Gray and signaled him to come closer. Gray closed the door behind him and sat next to her on the couch.
"Do you think he didn't want me to come because I'm so annoying and angry all the time?" Lucy stared at Gray with those big ideas he loved so much.
"No, of course not. You aren't annoying at all Luce! I know he loves spending time with you but I think everyone just needs time to themselves. He just wants you to be safe, that's all." Gray held Lucy's hand and smiled a bit for her. Lucy smiled too, she touched his face with her petite hands.
"You're awfully warm for an ice wizard." She teased and wrinkled her nose.
"Agh- my head hurts." Her words still slurred but it was easier to understand now.
"You should lay down. I'll get you some water." Gray got up and headed for the kitchen. What am I doing? She's not completely aware of what she's doing. Isn't this like taking advantage of her? A part of him said to just let it be and if she wanted him then it wouldn't matter because she probably wouldn't remember. But another part of him was thinking about her condition, she was just lonely. He was lonely too.
Gray came back into the living room where Lucy lay sleeping on the couch. Gray smiled and placed the cup of water on the table beside her. He walked closer to her, admiring her beauty. He stroked her hair and pat her on the head ever so gently. He sighed, not with disappointment but with relief. He covered her with a blanket and headed out for the door.
"Gray...Wait" Lucy reached her hand out to him. Gray walked back towards her, a feeling of hesitation overcame him. He sat down on the floor next to her. She wrapped her arms around him and whispered "I know you want it too." A chill went up Gray's back, even making him feel cold. He didn't deny it. That odd feeling came back. This is taking advantage of her. I should just leave before things get worse. But still, he wanted this. He felt like he needed this. He had longed for that comfort, the warm feeling inside. He was tired of being cold.
"No. I can't." Gray got up and looked to her. "This isn't what you want. This isn't what I want!" He sat down next to her, holding her hand. "I know you're lonely. I am too. But this won't fix it. If anything, it'll just make you feel worse. We aren't right for each other. Just wait a little longer, he'll give you the love and compassion you deserve." He smiled hesitantly, hoping she understood.
Lucy sniffled. "I just.." she wiped her tears "miss him so much. He's never around anymore and it feels like he'll never come back. I never got the chance to tell him how I really feel. He just took off. I'm sorry" Lucy covered her face and sobbed. Gray, unsure if it was just the alcohol talking, pat her on the head once more. "He'll be back soon. And you're not alone, you have me. C'mon you're stronger than this."
Lucy stopped sobbing for a second. She looked up at Gray and hugged him. She held him close. "You're not alone either." Gray smiled as they hugged, he didn't feel so lonely anymore and for a moment, he felt that warmth inside him.
