A/N: oh, what the hell, i might as well post another chapter now...

When I arrived back home, I found Kelsey sitting on my bed. As my jaw dropped, Mum walked through the door. “Oh, hi Kate, did you have a nice time at Alex’s?” I nodded slowly, and looked back at Kelsey, who was evidently making herself feel at home. My mother noticed my confused facial expression and quickly came to my aid. “You remember, honey, Kelsey’s parents are away tonight. We said that she could stay with us.” Remember? I had absolutely no memory of Mum telling me this, like, ever.

“Okay.”

My mum beamed. “Don’t stay up too late girls!” she said, as she backed slowly out of the room.

Kelsey didn’t even glance up at me. What was she reading? My eyes widened. My diary. “Aww, shoot, you’re actually looking at that? Privacy invasion or what, Kels?”

She gave me a wry smile. “Aww, shoot Kels,” she mimicked, smiling “Kate, don’t you ever swear? Man, I mean we’re in Year Nine!” As I shook my head, she continued, “I was suspended three times at my old school for telling the teachers exactly what I thought about them” I stared at her. She shrugged, nonchalantly “So much for opinions. Well, there are some pretty interesting things that I could gossip on in here Kate. Thanks.” My face reddened.

“Kelsey, this is my bedroom, this is my stuff, and you can’t touch it. If you have a problem with that, then find somewhere else to stay. The door’s that way.”

Kelsey raised one eyebrow. “Feisty, I approve” She nodded. “I’ll stay here if that’s okay. Seriously Kate, calm down. I wouldn’t really blab your secrets, you know that. Wanna play truth or dare?”

“Sure” I shrugged. “You start. Truth or dare, Kelsey?” She squealed delightedly. Kelsey is a very excitable person.

“Dare.”

I thought hard. What could I make Kelsey do? Well… “Okay Kels, I dare you to… spread peanut butter on the floor and then lick it up.”

Kelsey stared at me in horror. “Kate, man, I have a nut allergy. And on top of that, peanut butter is gross. So, dude, no.”

I folded my arms over my chest. “You’d better forfeit then.” I stated triumphantly, “Or change it to truth.” Kelsey mumbled all anarchistic, but swapped. Score one for Kate. Now, truth I could work with. “Okay, who is it you’re crushing on at school?”

She groaned and swore. “Kate did anyone ever tell you that you have a talent for asking awkward questions?” I grinned.

“Kels, you know you have to answer. Is it Joel?” Kelsey pulled a face.

“No, of course it’s not Joel, you idiot. He wouldn’t touch me with a barge pole. But then he doesn’t touch anyone, does he, so that doesn’t set me too far back…” I looked at her intently, waiting. “Fine. I’ll tell you. But if this gets out, then I swear…” she shook her head. That doesn’t mean anything Kelsey, you swear a lot. She couldn’t think of a big enough threat for a while. “I swear I will make your life no longer worth living, okay?” I nodded. I believed her. Leaning over, she whispered the name in my ear. “Gary Pritchard.”

What on earth??? I mean, I’d always known my friends were mad, however, this was something else. “Kels, why?”

Kelsey laughed at the shock on my face. “You know what I love about you Kate? You’re so gullible!”

I relaxed noticeably, my shoulders slumping over. “So you don’t like him?” Kelsey was doubled over, laughing at my confusion and general innocence.

“No, of course I don’t like him!” she glanced sneakily at me. “He’s all yours.” Exhaling in exasperation, I rugby tackled her to the floor. She was still laughing. “Kidding, kidding Kate.” She gave me a sideways look, like, I know who you really like… and you have some good stuff about him in your diary. Oh. My. Goodness. Will someone remind me why I even wrote that rubbish? Because you have no one to confide in Kate, you are alone. Thanks, me, for those cheerful thoughts.

“Okay, so… not Joel or Gary… who’s left? Hmmm.” I pretended to think for a while. Pay back time Kels. “Mike.”

Kelsey said nothing this time. “So you do like him! Kels, man, you have to tell him! He’s crushing on you, big time.” Kelsey looked up, interested.

“Maybe” she smiled, obviously embarrassed. Then her tone turned all business-like. “Right Kate, truth or dare?” Uh oh. Estoy en problemas...

Gulp. What could Kelsey make me do? A lot of evil things… Kelsey’s mind was seriously dirty. Probably best just to stay on the safe side. “Truth.” What could she force me to tell her, anyway? She’d already seen my diary.

A truly ‘I’ve got you now’ smile appeared on her tanned face. “On a scale of one to ten, how much do you like him?” Giant, inward groan. Should’ve thought of that. Could I lie? I was the world’s worst liar. Could I forfeit? If I did that, she would think of something worse, much worse. I inwardly groaned.  Kel-sey…

“Nine. Point four five.” The girl sitting on my bed nodded, like she’d been expecting it. Then, unfortunately for me, she opened her perfectly lipsticked mouth again.

“What could make that a ten, Kate? Full marks?” I stared at her.

“You know it’s now your time to answer my question, don’t you?” Kelsey shrugged.

Please Kate”

I slumped against the wall, letting all of the air out of my lungs gradually. “Fine. If he liked me back.”

“Sure. Maybe he does.”

“Maybe he doesn’t more like. He’s already obsessed with someone else.” Obsessed was definitely the right word for this situation. He was infatuated. Kelsey stood up.

“I’m going to the restroom. Continue later.” Slowly, I nodded my head. Half an hour later, the fates of the world looked down on me and laughed. So in front of Kelsey, no less, guess who it was that I ended up calling. Him.
