Ebony Cores: The school

Chapter Four

I fell asleep very quickly that night, I began having a very strange dream. I was in a pitch black room with one beaming light above me. I began wandering around, as I wandered the light would follow. I saw another light flash on across the room. There was a woman kneeling down with her hands over her face.

"Mom?!" I yelled across the room.

The woman who appeared to be her mother stood up anxiously and turned to Me. I saw that she was covered in chains. They were around her neck, wrists, and ankles.

"Fox?" Her mother shouted back.

I ran up to hug her, but my mother pushed me back.

"Shhhh! Fox I don't have much time before they find us-" My mother began.

"They? Them? Who?" I asked.

"Shh! I'm still here Fox, I need to get out, I need you to get me out. I need you to stop the ebony cores from-" The lights went dark, "They've found us..."

Suddenly she dropped through the floor and I was left alone.

"BEEP BEEP BEEP" My alarming clock buzzed.

I smacked the alarm clock and mumbled "Can I just sleep for like 5 more minutes?"

Vall giggled, "Well-"Then suddenly she was cut off.

I sat up to see why she had stopped. It was pitch black again and Vall was back in bed. I turned to look at the clock, it was 6:55 but, her alarm went off at 7:00.

"Hm must have just been another weird dream." I thought, "I might as well get up now."

I hopped off the bed trying to make the least amount of noise as possible so Vall could sleep.

I grabbed her bag which had all of my "morning necessities" and head down to the bathrooms.

When I walked in there was already many girls getting ready, doing their makeup, etc. I set her stuff down at the mirrors and began to get out my toothbrush. I could see Sophire glaring and whispering in the mirror. I just ignored it and began brushing my teeth.

Sophire and her "group" slowly walked up to the mirror and stood next to me "They're saying you don't know your power yet." Sophire whispered, "How do we know you actually have a talent?"

"Well at least my dad didn't get me in buy bribing the principal with money." I rolled her eyes at her.

"Um, excuse you I have powers, I worked hard to get here and it's not just because of my dad!" Sophire snapped.

"Then what's your power?"

"Beauty." Sophire flipped her hair back, "before you say anything, the actual term is Entrantress."

All the girls in her little group "ohhed" and "ahhed" while I just snickered and continued to get ready.

"I'm also fully fixed and have complete control over my powers!" Sophire boasted.

"If you're gonna gloat, go somewhere else, I have no interest in you."

Sophire stood frozen, shocked that I was being so straight forward with her and even more shocked at the fact that I didn't want to hear from her. She was an enchantress, it was her job to grasp people's attention. A smirk slowly arose to Sophire's face. She leaned in closer to me and whispered in her ear, "They're saying you're broken, you won't last long here, no one does." then her and her little group dashed off.

I cleaned up her things and began to head back to my room. The dream I had, had kept coming back into her mind and the word "Ebony Core" kept repeating inside my head. I wasn't sure why, but I knew that dream wasn't just strange, it was important somehow.

I decided to skip breakfast and go investigate the watch. It was a perfect time because no one would be in the dorm and I could be all alone.

I sat down on the bed and looked at the watch. I'm not sure what's so weird about it, but something strange is happening with it. It only seems to react when I use it, because when Vall changed the time nothing happened. I took the back off of it, but it revealed nothing but batteries and cogs.

The bell rang for us to get to our first class. I grabbed my bag and rushed to my first class. This would be my first class at this school and my first class with Tess.

I walked in and the sound of chattering students filled the air. I looked around for Tess and spotted him sitting in the very back. I walked back trying not to be noticed by other students and plopped down next to him.

"Hey Tess!" I smiled at him. He just smiled and waved.

I noticed a little pile of dirt forming on my desk. Then a little bud popped out the soon grew into a small flower. I cupped the flower with my hands and sniffed the flower.

"You know, your power really is amazing." I said staring at the flower in awe.

"Only if I could control it..." Tress mumbled.

"Hey it's okay! We can learn together!" I smiled.

I picked the flower out of the dirt and put it in his hair and giggled. Tess just rolled his eyes and took the flower out.

"Thank you, Fox, but I don't think I'll last much longer here if I can't control it. It could get to dangerous."

"Then I will do anything to help." I said.
