CHAPTER FOUR

It’s been a week since we got ta daddy. In that time we played together and had a lot of fun. Daddy even took us shopin but I wanted ta make my own clothes.Lou an Rowe wanted me ta make them somethin too so I spent most my time in the attic makin clothes for us and came down when I was tired or we was goin somewhere or ta eat. That night when we was all sittin at the table eatin daddy had said,

“I think it’s time for you girls to go to school.” School. I liked the sound of it before we left, a new school, new friends, and maybe somethin more.

“I wanna go!” Rowe ‘n I shouted at the same time. Daddy laughed a little and waved his hand down.

“You girls can go but you’ll be a little late in starting but you can take summer school if you want to or you’re doing bad in a class, Rolowesie to.” I was so excited for school that I got up and hugged Daddy sayin ‘thank you, thank, thank you!’ over and over again. Later that night I made Rowe, Lou, and myself somethin ta wear. I made ‘em extra special.

When it came time for school, I had made Lou a pretty light and dark purple , and white. I made Rowes ad mine dress the same way but Rowes was outta pink and mine was from blue. When Mamma had saw us she dropped whatever was in her hands and rushed over to us. When daddy saw us he ‘bout did the same. I was proud of what I made. I always am.

“Okay class, I’d like you all to welcome Rowe and Louise Ophelia. They are starting late because of travel. Please welcome them kindly.” Our teacher's name was Miss. Pineapple, she had a funny name and we laughed about it all the time. Rowe ‘n I was the top students in our class ‘n a lot of the girls asked me to make ‘em some dresses. I said yes but they had to but the materials they wanted plus a little extra since I was makin them. By the time a year had passed I was famous. Mamma an Daddy was so proud of me they bought me any type of fabric I wanted.

Since girls didn’t go to school as long as boys did I made my own business. I made anykind of clothes people wanted. I wasn’t that good at mesurin people so Rowe worked for me and did that. Lou had become some math wizard or whatever those things were called so she worked out all the money thngs and I got a whole bunch of people workin for me. I guess the Journey North wasn’t as bad as i first thought it would be but I did enjoy makin new friends ‘n all.
