Chapter Seventeen
The man I passed in the parking lot was middle-aged with a tattoo peeking out on the side of his neck and an earring on his right ear. He wore a black hoodie zipped over a black T-shirt and regular jeans and pure black Converse that blended in the dark. I was in the distance. I saw that when he was running, something fell out of his pocket and Mia Kaye walked to grab it to give it to him but I saw it was a gun, I sped through the parking lot and looked at the man, frozen, shaking with fear. He grabbed it and pointed it at Mia Kaye.
Current time
I'm in the distance but still able to see what was happening. In a flash, I think about my life over the last few years. All the good memories. The bad. Mark. Sally. Grammy. Proposing. Even inside Target.
Mia Kaye puts her hands up, crying, begging for him not to kill her. I get out of the car slowly, not willing to risk my movement cause the man to shoot the love of my life. She yells, so loud I can hear so clearly, "My name is Mia Kaye Beatryce Parker! Amelia, actually. Amelia Kaye Beatryce Parker." The the man with the gun looks at her, watching her intently, not killing her... yet. "My mom's name is Beatryce! I was named a-after my mom. She d-died after I was born so my dad named me after her." The man cocks the gun, making Mia Kaye yell louder, "No brothers or sisters, obviously. My dad is a famous surgeon, John Parker. I grew up in Florida and moved here for my dad's job." He raises the gun higher and McKaye screams so loud her lungs burn probably. I still move slowly, not on the sidewalk yet. "I have a boyfriend! H-his name is Jackson. Super hot. I love him. H-he's actually my fiancee and we're only sixteen! I'm supposed to be married in a couple years. When he's out of medical school. I'm a sophomore in high school and I have my entire life planned out perfectly and i-it's a good life. Don't kill me." Mia Kaye pleads, all her words in just a matter of seconds.
The man blinks and looks away, gun still raised, "I'm sorry." It doesn't work.
That's when I run, leap out of the front of my car to get in front of the girl I love. I get to her just in time.
I am alive because of her. For her.
I will also die because of her. For her.
I stand right between the man with a gun and the love of my life.
I get there just in time.
Right before the man pulled the trigger.
End.
