Chapter 0
Jungkook and Tae were walking home together again. It all made sense, after all they were in the same neighbourhood and they've been friends since middle school. But today was different, or so Jungkook thought everyday when they walked side by side in silence.
'Maybe today was actually different?' Jungkook thought to himself and didn't realise when he had stopped walking. Tae stopped too and looked at the dilemmatic expression on his face and suddenly felt worried "Are you alright?" he asked. There was a moment of silence before Jungkook proceeded walking ahead silently. Tae stayed a couple of steps behind him to give him some privacy.
Why was he finding this so hard? The silence wasn't helping him either. He spent a few minutes walkin in slence ubtil they reached his house. Not wanting to let his chance go to risk it all he halted in front of the house he grew up in. Tae wondered what was wrong when Jungkook spun around stiffly "Kookie?". Jungkook inhaled harshly before whispering the three words he always wanted to say."I like you". The words cut through the wind and silence that lay between them. Tae stood grounded to his place at a loss of words. 'Jungkook liked me?' He thought. He probably heard it wrong, right? Tae decided Kookie couldn't possibly like him romantically, after all they were just friends, right?..
Jungkook was frustrated by his silence by now and had the urge to open his eyes and look at the expression on his face. He was scared to see the expression on Tae's face 'Maybe he hates me now?'. When Tae asked him what he meant his frustration grew and in a swift motion Tae was suddenly pushed against the wall in the alley to his right. The force made his back hit the wall and he shut his eyes in pain. The sudden movement left him dizzy momentarily. When he didn't feel dizzy anymore he opened his eyes to face the person in front of him. He was met with a pair of mocha eyes staring at him intensely. It was Jungkook's eyes. The eyes he's always wanted to see up close. Eyes that remind him of rich coffee and the depths of the sea.
Jungkook stared into Tae's eyes. It was the first time he got to see him up so close and he felt himself losing himself in the innocent bright eyes that stared back. He fell yet again. "Where should I start?" He whispered with his face so close to Tae that Tae could feel his breath. "Should I start with how I love holding your hand in mine?" He whispered and took Tae's hand in his. He continued after gingerly kissing Tae's hand "Or should I start with how your eyes are so beautiful I can't stop staring once they latch on mine?" Tae gulped nervously as Jungkook caressed his cheek. "I love the way your cheeks tint crimson when you're angry. I love the way your hair is always all over the place and how your smile brightens up the room."
Tae looked to his right to make an escape but Jungkook blocked him from both sides with his hands. Tae looked back at him "Why?" He whispered hoarsely. The pain dripping from the one word Tae uttered pulled at Jungkooks heart and his breath hitched, he couldn't bear his Tae speak in such a way. "Why? Because I love you. I love the way your eyes always beam in excitement and the way you're always smiling. I love the cute expressions you make and the way you're so kind to everyone. I love you so much I can't take it anymore" Jungkook spoke.
His fears were increasing with every word he was saying might be slowly tainting their friendship. That's when a tear slid down Tae's face. He wanted to console him and tell him it's alright but continued "I love the puppy faces you make when you want something and the way you're so damn nice to me." Tae breaks their eye contact and looks down at his feet, unable to bear his intense gaze.
There was internal conflict in Jungkook's mind even though the words slipped out of his mouth so smoothly. "I love the way you-" his voice breaks as he raises his eyes back to Tae who was now crying. Jungkook's stare this time was so intense and laced in fear it struck a cord in Tae's heart. He felt weak and broken as Jungkook whispered ever so quietly "I love the way you've accepted me. I love it all." A tear slipped down Jungkook's face as he got even closer to Tae and held his hand in his. Tae was slowly being ripped apart by his words. He didn't deserve Jungkook. Jungkook deserved a lot more than Tae. 'The good should never hold broken mirrors' he thought as he slumped onto the wall behind him.
Jungkook saw the hurt in his eyes. That's when the waterworks started. The walls were broken and the filters malfunctioned. He was about to cry but spoke even louder "I love the way you were there for me when I was depressed and broken." He took a deep breath "I love how you stayed over at my door when I was cooped up in my room and talked to me, not caring even when I didn't reply back. The way you never left me and the way you're ever so beautiful. I love it so much it's hard to have gone years without telling you." Tae slumped back on the wall and looked back up at Jungkook."I don't deserve it. Your love. You."
His words were like a knife to Jungkook's heart. He felt as if his whole world came breaking down and let go of Tae. He took a few steps back to hit the wall. Jungkook silently looked down but Tae could see the tears hitting the cement. In the silence they both heard the loud thumping of their hearts that sought one another.
"No one else was there for me when she died. How can you, who has done the most for me not deserve my love?" He almost shouted and looked up in anger. He walked upto him briskly and stopped right in front of Tae. "You deserve it. You deserve much more than me. Please don't keep me on hold."
Tae was at a loss of words yet again. How could the person in front of him be so beautiful. They stared at one another for a while as Tae tried to speak up. Jungkook intertwined their hands "Will you accept me?" A pleading look on his face made Tae's heart ache. With hesitstion he nodded. Jungkook smiled slightly and Tae did too.
Tae opened his mouth to speak but the look on Jungkook's eyes didn't let him. They were just at a threads distance to one another. All one of them needed to do was to deplete it. When Tae didn't avert his approach Jungkook crashed his lips onto Tae's. Tae immediately responded and Jungkook hugged him. Tae finally felt like he was at home. He finally was able to tell himself it was alright to hold feelings for Jungkook. It was alright to be who he was.
Jungkook felt the tears going down his cheeks. He felt loved for the first time in years. He felt the warmth of being loved after so long.
