it was the friday right before you had a school break. like always, you waited outside the school for finn. you saw him walk up to you. you smiled.
"um, y/n, can i... can i tell you something?"
your smiling face immediately became concerned.
"yeah, anything, finn."
"it's- it's really important."
you became worried.
"j- just tell me." you swallowed.
"okay, well, um, hold on. do you want to go to the back of the school?"
"sure. yeah, yeah, sure." you were anxious.
he grabbed your hand and walked you to the school's back field and you sat down on a bench with him.
"so, uh, i don't know how i'm gonna tell you this, but-"
"just say it." you held onto the tops of his hands.
"well, okay. so, i- i have this job thing that i got hired for. for... for acting, yeah." he paused.
you nodded your head, signaling that you were listening.
"and, well... i have to leave."
"what- what do you mean... leave?"
"i won't see you again." his voice started becoming shaky.
"ev- ever?" you held his hands tighter.
"i- well, i'll come back. for sure. definitely. but... i'm gonna be gone for a while. like, months or maybe even longer."
a lump formed in your throat. you pulled him into a tight hug as a tear fell down your cheek and onto the back of his shirt.
"i'm- i'm really going to miss you, finnie."
"i'm going to miss you, too, y/n. a lot." he sighed shakily.
"will you be okay?" he asked you.
"i will. i... i swear." you responded.
"are you sure?"
"yeah. yeah, i promise."
you separated from the hug. you looked at him, noticing his eyes were puffy and red, just like yours.
"i'll text you. i'll call you. i'll do everything it takes just to talk to you again." he said through his voice, now hoarse.
you shut your eyes and moved closer to him. you leaned your head on his shoulder.
"when do you have to go?" you said.
"sunday." he responded.
"we still have two days. let's make the most out of them." he said.
you lifted your head and smiled.
"yeah, sounds like a plan." you said, sniffling.
"and... and i'm going with the rest of my family. for the first week. but they'll be back. i won't. but i swear i will come back. for you."
you smiled, a tear falling down your face at the same time.
"these were the best few months of my life." you told him.
"me too. i'm glad they were all with you. i can't imagine them without you. i- i can't imagine myself without you."
you swallowed, not knowing what to say.
"i'll never forget you." he said after silence.
"i'll never forget you either." you looked at the sun starting to set.
"i hope you have fun, though." you said.
"th- thanks, y/n. i hope you have fu- i... i hope you'll be okay."
"i will. i swear."
he kissed you on the cheek.
"so where to?" he said.
you chuckled. "i'm gonna miss this, finn. i'm gonna miss us. i'm gonna miss... you."
"we've been over this, y/n. and i'm definitely gonna miss you, too. but right now, just forget that i'm leaving. remember how you planned something last week for this school break?"
"y- yeah."
"just pretend that i'm not leaving and we can do exactly what you planned."
a smile came across your face.
"i'm so happy i have you."
"i can't even tell you how happy i am to have you."
one last tear streamed down your face.
"so, wanna get this night started?" he said, facing you and wiping the tear from your cheek.
"yeah. yeah, i do." you stood up and grabbed his hand.
"let's go."
