"so i guess this is it?" you asked him, not minding the tear rolling down your cheek.
"yeah. i guess so." he said.
"i'm- i'm really going to miss you." your voice cracked.
"i'm going to miss you, too."
he started leaning in towards you. it seemed as if the world had stopped. he started getting closer, closer...
"finn! come on!" nick yelled from the opposite side of the grassy field.
"i'm sorry. i- i... meet me at my house. at 9:30. tonight."
"what? i thought you had to go tonight!" you said.
"i do, i do! i... don't. well, you'll see. just- just come." he said, stumbling upon his words. he faced the other direction and started walking back over to nick.
"okay?" you questioned.
"yeah. i- i'll see you later." he said, turning around one more time to look at you.
you shrugged, completely confused. you decided to just let it happen, and you made it back to your house.♡♡♡
you got yourself ready to go to finn's. what does he want? you thought to yourself. you checked the time on your phone. it was 9:17. shit.
you rushed down the stairs, exited your house and headed over to finn's.
you arrived at his house and sighed.
you knocked on the door. it opened up to a smiling finn.
"hey." you said.
"come in." he replied.
"what are you doing? where are we going?" you asked.
"shh. no questions, y/n." he said.
he took you up to the top floor of his house, which you had never been to, despite the fact that you had been friends for years.
he grabbed your wrist and took you to the roof. the night sky was bright and filled with stars.
"ah, so this is what we're doing? looking at the stars?" you asked.
"yep."
"you know me so well."
you sat down next to him on the roof. you sat down close to the edge, having enough space not to fall.
"where is everyone?" you asked him.
"they left. i told them to."
you immediately panicked. "what? why? finn, this is a big deal! you can't just pass up on it!"
"i- i know. i didn't. i'm leaving tomorrow. i just told them to leave without me."
"w- why?"
"i... i wanted to spend more time with you." he stayed silent.
"even if it was just an extra second. any time spent on you is definitely time that's not wasted."
you were speechless.
"but- but why me?" you said.
"because."
you paused. "finn?"
"yeah?"
"i.... i love you. i really do."
you faced him, staring deeply into his eyes. a gust of wind passed by, hitting you on the cheek, making it cold.
he started to lean in.
is he doing what i think he's doing?
he leaned in closer. you copied his actions until the space between your lips was gone.
"i love you, too."
you tried to hide a smile.
you sighed, resting your head on his shoulder. you looked down at his hand, right next to yours. his fingers intertwined with yours.
"finn, do- do you ever feel butterflies?"
"in what way?"
"you know. the ones in your stomach that are about to fly out. the ones you feel when you're with someone that you love."
"y-yeah. they're... they're the ones i feel when i'm with you."and that ended it. you and finn sitting there carelessly, looking at the stars. your fingers linked. your head against his shoulder. and the butterflies.
the butterflies that finally flew out.
