CHAPTER FIVE

The stars outside the main window are glistening more than ever when my phone, nestled between the rustled covers, vibrates. My sketchbook sits on the other side, with a pencil on top of the half finished sketch of Taehyung.

I jump up to reach it, which causes Yoongi to look up at me from the other side of the room. The phone glows with a new text:

taehyung [10:56]
hey come outside

My heart leaps at my throat. I am smiling at the notification, gawking at this being the first message he has sent me before replying,

jeongguk [10:57]
give me a sec

"I'm leaving," I announce to Yoongi. He glances from his textbook and his hand has stopped in between writing notes.

"Where?"

"Out."

"With who?"

"No one." I'm reaching for my coat, sliding it over my shoulders before Yoongi can shoot another curious glare at my head. I grab my sketchbook and pencils, shoving them in my bag and breezing out of the room. "I'll text you to make sure I'm not dead!" I yell lastly and make my way to the courtyard.

The halls couldn't be longer, the walls lingering and preventing me from seeing Taehyung any sooner. When I step outside, the cold air sinks its teeth through my jacket, a chill runs up my spine. I spot him sitting on a bench, huddled into his coat and the dark tinged, tangerine leaves falling on his head.

"Hey," I breathe out, causing Taehyung to look over and stand up upon seeing me. There's a glossy layer over his chocolate eyes, his cheeks flushed scarlet, almost making me reach up and grab his face in my palms and kiss his plumped-from-the-cold lips.

My hands turn to rock fists in the pockets of my jacket.

"Hello," he replies. We stand frozen, gawking at each other. I lick my lips so they don't turn to icicles and start to inevitably shake from the cold. Taehyung sees this and takes a stride closer, but quickly stops himself and clears his throat.

"You are probably wondering why I have requested for your presence here," his voice booms, "correct?"

I nod.

"Well, Noble Jeongguk, I have an adventurous quest."

What. A. Nerd.

"An adventurous quest?" I tilt my head to look at him. The boy gleams and nods his head assuringly, humming softly.

"Precisely! Let's go! We must not waste any more time!" His face has broken into smile. "C'mon, jump on my back!" Taehyung crouches and looks behind at me expectedly.

I think about how long we've known each other. We're friends now. Surely he's not this weird with all of his friends.

"I'm not jumping on your back," I protest.

He rolls his eyes, "just do it, it's all part of the plan. Stop being a party pooper."

"No."
