Four friends trudged
Down a path together.
They laughed
And they cried,
And they promised to stay together.

Suddenly, the path forked,
And one was forced
To leave the others.
She said her goodbyes
And promised to stay in touch.

Alone, she walked
For many days.
She passed many people,
But no one said, "Hello."
No one even gazed her way.

Her head became heavy,
And her heart was even heavier.
She felt alone
And as if nobody wanted her.

She passed a few people
As she stumbled along.
They acted interested in her.
For once, nothing was wrong.

They held her hand
And they played with her games.
They tide ropes around her waist.
And they called her by name.

She didn't notice
How the ropes held her captive.
How they used her as leverage.
And they only spoke lies.

They told her they liked her
And she was funny and keen.
It took her a while
To see their real means.

She forsook these false friends.
And she turned buck to lonesomeness.
And loneliness
That never seemed to end.

"I'd rather be alone
And have no friends at all
Than to only have friends
That will bring me to fall."

She distanced herself,
And she again walked.
Her chest felt always tight,
But she continued to fight.

She stumbled her way up,
And up,
And up,
Until finally she reached the very top.

She stood at the top of the world,
Alone but satisfied.
She looked down at all those who tried
To make her fail.

But she didn't laugh.
She didn't mock those below her.
She encouraged them
To keep moving forward.

Even though they had meant it for the worst,
It all turned out for good.
They had only wished her evil,
But she rose up.
And she conquered them all,
And at the very top, she stood straight and tall,
And she encouraged them to keep on,
Lest they themselves fall.
