Public Humiliation

The next morning, after my usual get up routine, I head to school dressed in an innocent Japanese schoolgirl uniform. Upon getting there, as always, the boys stare too long and the girls stare too hard. By lunch, I'm severely uncomfortable.

"Man you're really pressing your luck this time aren't you?" Amy says as I sit down. "I know I know, but it's Friday, she never has a reason to bully on Friday." "No she doesn't bother you on the last day before any school break, typical Fridays can hold any kind of problem." I sigh, raking my fingers through my wavy brown hair. "Why do you have to be so damn right all the time?" She raises her head to reply but sees something over my shoulder and pales slightly, though her face remains stone somber.

"Speak of the devil." That's all she has to say for me to know; Chloe has entered the room.

Chloe is your traditional queen bee with a couple new additions you don't often see; most queen bees are usually blond with blue eyes, she has black wavy hair with dark green eyes that gleam with mischief. Unlike most evil girls, she doesn't have a specific troop that hangs out with her, just random people that are lucky enough to be within five feet of her. As I glance over my shoulder, I see she's wearing a light pink dress that really clashes with her hair.

"She's heading towards us, prepare your battle stations." I roll my eyes and lower my head, taking an innocent bite of my pizza. The annoyingly familiar click-clack of her heels makes me freeze steadily, the sound carefully slows and stops. By me.

Well shit. "Hey Christa." She's has that cheerful fake voice most plastics do and when I turn to look her in the eye she's grinning with that fake grim most plastics use. "How's your day going?" I shrug. "Same old same old." There's an unearthly pause of silence.

"Why Christa, you're not looking me in the eye. Why don't you stand up and so I can look at you?" I raise an eyebrow. That's a new one. I know it's stupid to do so but I stand up and raise my head to calmly gaze into her eyes.

There's a brief pause before she smacks my food out of my hand, just like that. The slam of the metal to tile vibrates throughout the room, causing everyone to look my way. No one really does anything, I half expected them to laugh in that unsettlingly mocking way, instead everyone's silent, watching and waiting to see what happens.

My anger's boiling, it grows in my core and spreads throughout my body, with fists clenched I began to breath loud enough for me to truly hear. A faint fuzzy sound rises to my ears, the only thing penetrating it is Amy's voice, low enough for only me to hear. "Don't do it Christa, don't do it." But I'm far from listening.

My fist comes up before I realize it, hitting Chloe smack in the jaw. I expected her to fall back which she does but also hits her head on the floor, knocking herself out cold.

The softest gasp issues through the room, so quiet it's almost silent. All eyes look to me, mouths gaping slightly. I look back at all of them has my fingertips graze across the back of my hand, pulsing slightly at the punch. The faintest sound of footsteps sounds off down the hall, the teachers are approaching, they'll soon know what happened.

But I don't want to face the music.

When everyone looks to the door, I take my chance and bolt out the back door, hand cradled against my chest.
