Initial setting: your house with Illumi.

------------------------------------------------------------------

You have just finished washing the dishes and was now contemplating about heading up after a tiring day or drinking the stress out of your system. You rush to the wine cabinet and you struggled with which bottle to take. You needed something to help you seal the deal and get past your anxiety.

Champagne? Too special for this occasion.

Wine? Tastes better with a drinking buddy.

Vodka? Reserved for cold nights.

Rum? A pirate's companion on lonely nights in the open sea.

Sounds like the bottle for you.

You sit on the table with a snifter half filled with rum.

You and Illumi have been married for five years now and things haven't gone as planned. You two moved out of the Zoldyck mansion two years ago since Illumi had his fill of oysters, chocolates, and other aphrodisiacs. Kikyo and Silva did everything they could think of to get you two to start making babies even if, the pressure wasn't on Illumi's shoulders to produce the heir of clan. You didn't really mind having children but, he didn't want kids.

You've known him for 9 years prior to the wedding and you never really thought that he didn't want kids. Ever since you got married, you never got an explanation from Illumi. He was amazing with his siblings and never seemed to be bothered by taking care of them. But maybe he secretly was- he took care of his three siblings (and one the family didnt recognize) from the age of five.

For 14 years, you programmed yourself to understand a lot of things. And it took you one year into the marriage to realize the inevitable...

You understood that he liked to travel, take long walks, and that he was obsessed with his silvery haired brother named Killua but not once did he take you with him.

You understood that he didn't like either kissing, hugging, or dating - In fact, he never really asked you out on a date. You suggested it once and he abhorred the idea of it. It was disappointing but maybe, he just isn't the showy type. But not even that could stop you from stealthily planting a kiss on his cheek once a day.

You understood that he liked being alone. One time... No... Multiple times, you tried to sit beside him on the couch and all he ever did was walk away. You just thought that maybe he was anti-social, since he never really did anything with you except eat silently, sleep, and have loud sex. Sex with him was the only time you could hold and kiss him and show him how much you wanted him but, he always made sure that you were on the pill. Sex, though mind blowing, felt so casual that it never made you feel bonded like it should've.

You understood that he will forever be distant from you and that no amount of reasoning would alter that. Those times you thought he was affectionate - like when you scraped your knee when you were small and he took care of it; when he asked you to dance with him; when he'd pull the chair and opened the door for you; and when he proposed - all those things were done because it was his obligation.

Finally, you understood that you never really knew anything until then...

He didn't love you.

It hurt so much to accept that the man you've grown to love, cherish, and understand -never loved you back. This angered you but you couldn't truly blame him. It was an arranged marriage after all.

So, you gave it another week, another month, until it became another year and nothing changed. It slowly began to consume you, that for 14 pain staking years, he never gave a damn. Happily ever after was only a figment of your imagination. You were married into a tragedy.

Even after realizing this, you still remained true to your part as his wife. You cooked, cleaned, and fucked. You stayed out of his way when he wanted to entertain himself like when he was playing darts, drinking bourbon, or doing research on his target.

Despite all your efforts, it still didn't change the fact that you loved him so much but you also knew that, if you stayed, you won't even recognize yourself anymore.

You needed to decide by tonight.

Just one sign. That was enough for you to gamble your marriage with the man you love for your sanity.

You grab the glass and down the rum.

"I'm ready." You say to yourself with conviction.
