"It was y/N's request." Silva answered as he helped Kikyo up and asked her to take the other kids to another room.

"Y/n? When? How? Why?"

"She went here a week before you moved back in. She requested for you to do the mission. If you refuse, the job goes to anyone in the Zoldyck family with the promise of guaranteed death. We didn't want to agree but she pulled a tough bargain. 100 billion Jennies for you to stop doing missions or her life and memories for 20 billion Jennies..." Zeno explained.

"And if you didn't agree to any?"

"A nen curse for each Zoldyck family member." Silva sat on his chair.

"Her black candle curses aren't exactly nen-exorcist proof."

"Don't under estimate a Zoldyck's wife." Silva comments.

"Especially, when she is willing to hire 9 nen-users who are about to die - Not to mention, these users hate our family. And we all know Nen gets stronger after death."  No nen exorcist could stop that... Zeno sits beside Silva.

"So, she came here to threaten the family and you let her come out alive?"

"She was your wife and we knew she had to put us in a situation where neither of us could refuse. Your freedom and the threat were necessary evils to make us choose the lesser evil - her death or for you to execute the mission." Silva adds.

"That explains that but then, why are you offering me an early retirement?"

"Because, it's not easy to do a mission that involves a loved one. We are assassins, not monsters." Silva crosses his arms.

"Plus, we still think that she makes a perfect match for you. She's the only one who managed to put you in your place." Zeno crosses his legs and tugs on his mustache.

Illumi struggled to grasp how y/n earned Zeno's respect while he hardly ever acknowledged him.

"Do you want us to leave so you can read that?" Zeno was referring to the folded paper in front of Illumi. "No, it's fine." Illumi reaches for the paper and slowly opened the letter.

My beloved Illumi,
     By the time you open this, our divorce would have been set in stone. I know this is long over due but, it's better late than never. I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye but there is a good reason for it. That wasn't the last time we were going to see each other. Yes, I intended to hire you for my weak and selfish reasons...

     My time alone made me realize that you deserve someone stronger, someone wiser, and someone less needy. Don't say that I too deserve better because after all these years, despite the divorce, I'm sure my heart would still be beating for you. I know this because from the moment that I left, I hoped that maybe you'd come looking for me. Although I knew you would never come, I have been and will still be waiting for you just the same. Given this premise, you can already tell that I'll never be at peace.

     Illumi, I honestly thought that I'd be better the moment I left your side. Unfortunately, I'm not, it only made me miss taking care of you. Even if it was one sided, it made me happy but that's not how love works. A heart can still break, even when it's already broken. Hence why, I have come to this decision. I need you to erase any trace of you or your family from my life. I chose you, not because you are the past that haunts me but because, you're the only one who could execute this well. Illumi, please forget about our past. Forget how intimate we were, and who I was in your life. I'm asking you this as your client.

Illumi didn't want you to forget him however, your arguments made sense. He failed to make you smile when he was your husband and wanted to make it up to you. Even if it hurts, if you wish to completely have him erased from your life, he'll do it. Illumi is known to be very pragmatic after all hence, why he chose to take on the request. Without a word, he takes the document and makes his leave.

"Illumi, I trust you to do what is right." Silva calls out. The young Zoldyck heard his father and frowned because in his current situation, he couldn't tell wrong from right. Illumi walks out the door and passes the hallway out of the mansion. He was juggling both y/N's request and his father's words that he didn't even realize he was already on an airship bound for York New City.
