Shattered

They walked through the dimly lit hallways of the Zoldyck mansion and into Silva's room. His father's personal watch dog was asleep. Silva sits on his chair and hands Illumi a long brown envelope.

"This will be your last mission should you choose to complete it." Silva looks him in the eye.

Illumi was bewildered by his father's words. An early retirement was not possible for a Zoldyck. "What's the catch?"

"Just complete it."

"Last mission huh? How much is this mission worth?" Illumi asked before opening the envelope.

"The offer is 20 Billion Jennies but I think it's worth more."

Illumi scoffs. "That's not a comfortable retirement..."

"You can still live here and and be a Zoldyck but, you won't be allowed on missions. Plus, I checked your bank account, you have more than enough for 2 generations of Zoldycks to live comfortably on."

"You didn't need to open my bank records but my response will depend on the details of this mission." Was his target someone from the Phantom Troupe? If it isn't, then the person that ordered this hit must really hate this target to be that generous. "Is it a class a mission?" Illumi inquired.

"You be the judge of that."

Illumi detaches the wax seal of the envelope and pulled out its contents. A letter, biodata, and a photograph that was turned over.

Illumi looks at Silva and he looked back at him intently. Illumi broke eye contact and skimmed through the first 4 details in the biodata:

Name: Angelica Florence
Age: 23
Address: Penthouse 4, Paragon Tower, Emerald Avenue, York New City, Yorbian Contient.
Level of Difficulty: Class E

Illumi raises and eyebrow. "20 billion for a class E mission? How pathetic." He comments.

He flips over the photograph and drops the file on the floor.  Angelica Florence is Y/N's new identity...

"Is this a sick joke?" Illumi unleashed his menacing Ren filled with anger and blood lust. His aura could be felt beyond the stone walls that surrounded the Zoldyck property.

The guard dog was now growling at Illumi and stood in front of Silva.

"Not so pathetic now is it?" Silva eyed Illumi, unfazed by his Aura. Instead, Illumi's father was impressed by his son's capabilities - he raised his eldest well.

"Why did you accept this..."

"Son-"

"WHO WANTS HER DEAD?!"

Suddenly the steel doors of Silva's room bursts open. Kikyo, Illumi's mother rushes in and looks at her son and Silva in confusion. "What's going on here?!"

"WAS IT YOU, MOTHER?!?" Suddenly, Illumi's aura multiplied immensely. After all, she's the one who has the instinct to kill any target that fails to please her. Everyone in the mansion knew that his divorce was very dishonorable to Lady Kikyo. Illumi pulls out a nen pin from his pocket. He glares at his mother. He was ready to kill her.

"ILLUMI!!!" Silva's voice bellowed through the halls. Kikyo falls back in fear. Kalluto, Milluki and Killua appear behind her. Silva was now standing behind his son with his hand transformed into a claw. It's razor sharp nails were pointed towards Illumi's neck, ready to decapitate him. "LISTEN TO ME!!!"

"NO! YOU LISTEN TO ME!!! ALL MY LIFE I'VE DEDICATED MYSELF TO THIS FAMILY! WITHOUT QUESTION, I FOLLOWED YOUR ORDERS! I TRAINED MY SIBLINGS AND I NEVER WALKED AWAY FROM MY RESPONSIBILITIES! AND WHAT DID I GET? A FAILED MARRIAGE AND A BROKEN HEART. I MET Y/N! THE ONLY PERSON WHO TREATED ME WITH GENTLENESS AND MADE ME FEEL ALIVE. I THOUGHT THAT I ONLY NEEDED TO PROTECT HER FROM THE WORLD LIKE I DID FOR MY SIBLINGS - WHEN IN REALITY, I HAD TO PROTECT HER FROM MYSELF! ALL THIS TIME I THOUGHT I HAD WHAT IT TOOK TO LIVE AND START A FAMILY! I THOUGHT I WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP THE WOMAN I LOVED BUT I FAILED! SHE LEFT ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE. AND NOW I HAVE TO KILL HER?!" Illumi dropped the pin and fell to his knees.

Silence filled the room. The red dot on Kikyo's visor vanished and was now displaying tv static. Silva was at a loss for words for what his eldest son disclosed. The three younger siblings of Illumi fought back tears for failing to understand their older brother throughout the years. None of them expected Illumi to be this broken. None of them knew how to console the heartbroken Zoldyck.

"Mother... Father... Her only crime was to leave me. Aside from that, she has done nothing wrong. If this was about not having kids, she wanted kids but, I didn't because I don't know how to raise them the way she would. She loved me daily for five years when I did nothing but push her away. To repay her, even if we're no longer together, I still want to protect her. If you want money, I will pay the 20 billion Jennies in cash and if that's not enough, I'll work for free for the rest of my life. Just please don't let me or anyone in this family harm her. The marriage failed because of me. Don't take it out on her."

He was now in tears with nothing but desperation in his request. He discarded whatever dignity he had left in front of his entire family. He cared not for what his parents thought, his objective was to save y/n even if it meant breaking the Zoldyck code of never showing emotional weakness. His outburst was enough to earn him 5 years in an iron maiden and torture from Zeno and his father.

"Illumi, it's not the wish of your mother and father to have her killed." Zeno walks in to the room and looks down at Illumi. "Then who?" Illumi inquires.
