*I am back again with another part. :) Hope you enjoy. BEWARE OF THE STEPS.
It is more than a week later from the whole situation in the wellness room. I've barely seen Lauren at all. I know I'm not really supposed to be seeing her anyway, but being away from her for just a day is like torture. And usually, you know, I see her around in the hallways or something. But now, I literally never see a glimpse of her at all. It is killlling me.
I walk into the lockers rooms and take out my P.E. clothes. A pair of shorts and athletic shirt to go with it. I change quickly pulling my shirt over my head and tying up my hair. A few girls walk in and out in a rush. I check the clock. Class starts in about a minute. Shit.
I run out the locker rooms and down the stairs managing to trip over a step. I lose my grip on the railing and start falling face first toward the steps. I feel a tug around my sides. I get pulled back up steadily on the stairs. A girl's hands are firmly wrapped around me with my back touching her chest. This isn't awkward at all. I turn around to face my "savior".
"LAUREN?", I shout.
"Hey V", she replies looking down.
How do we keep meeting in such weird situations?
"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to pull you so close. It was just a reflex."
"It's alright without you I would hav-", I stop midsentence.
Is that Clara's voice? OH God. I look at Lauren in horror. She gives me a very confused look. Then, I did something I probably shouldn't have. I'm such an idiot.
I grabbed Lauren's hand and dragged her into ice room. That doesn't seem so bad. Except in the process of my frantic rushing, I managed to knock us both over, on the ground. Oh, and it gets better. I just happened to land, RIGHT ON TOP OF HER. She tries to speak, but I cover her mouth with my hand. She proceeds to try to talk but then stops. Luckily, the ice room is dark so no one who walks by can really see in. We sit there for awhile. One of my hands next to her face on the floor and the other covering her mouth. I wait until Clara's voice gets farther and farther.
I uncover Lauren's mouth.
"What the fuck Veronica!"
"I am so sorry, I just, it's complicated."
I can't make out her expression in the dark, but I know she's pissed. I get off her quickly and sit on the back of my feet. She raises herself up in sitting position, our faces only inches apart.
"Um, Lauren."
"Mhmm."
All anger seems to be lost in her voice. Her eyes staring intently into mine. They look more grey than green in the dark. She lets her forehead touch mine briefly.
"Lauren, I uh, wut th-"
She puts her finger to my mouth. More voices pass by. I sit and stare in her eyes. What in the world is happening? She lets her finger drop to the ground without a sound. The voices get farther away.
"Why were you going to the gym?", she whispers to me.
I can feel her breath on my lips, making mine quiver.
"I was, oh god, I was going to fitness. We are so late. I'm so sorry", I exclaim.
"V, we have a free period."
My mind goes blank. This all could have been prevented if I would have checked my freaking schedule. I look at her dumbfounded. She smiles and starts laughing lightly.
"This is sooo not funny Lauren."
"Your- face- was priceless," she says barely getting words out as she laughed.
