Kayla's POV
I was just waking up when all of a sudden, my entire family was surrounding me. My older brother, James, my other older brother Lionel, and my parents.
Now, what would you do if you were in my place?
You'd probably be nervous, so let's play a little game.
Will she. . .
a) gasp
b) scream
c) all of the above?
You guessed it! C it is.
I screamed as loud as I could, and since I was in choir, I could do that pretty well. "Dammit, Kayla, you really need to lower that." James growled. "Congratulations, baby girl! You're 18 today, and you can finally find your mate!" Mom shouted with glee.
My inner wolf, Taylor, stirred inside me.
~Who dares to wake me up?~ Taylor said.
~It's mating day, get over yourself, Taylor~ I demanded.
~MATE? WHERE?"~ She asked me.
~I don't know yet, duh!~ I said her and she went back to her nap. Finally, some time without that demanding part-Kardashian.
"Um, mom, I'm kind of in my pajamas, I look a mess, do you mind getting out?" I asked as politely as I could. Mom's a sucker for good manners, and I loved using that to my advantage. She's so clueless, I just love it!
"Of course, sweetie. Just remember, if you're mate isn't part of an Alpha lineage, you always have a chance to decline." She said. I just sat there with a shocked expression while Lionel read my messages.
"'Love you, baby?' Who is Cameron? Who's ass should I whip? What does he look like? I'll text him." Lionel said. I snatched the phone from his hand "Cameron is my best friend. And she has green hair and blue eyes." I said to him and Lionel looked ashamed.
"Now, could you people please get out? I have to get ready for school!" I shouted. Mom was shocked at my sudden rise of voice and I calmed down.
"Sorry, it's just, I still look a mess, if I haven't mentioned, and I'd really like some time alone for myself to shower and prepare for an awful school day." I said. "You don't know it'll be awful." Mom says back, and with that, she turns on her heels and leaves.
That was ominous.
So, after that, I quickly grabbed my shampoo, conditioner and other toiletries to get ready for school. I felt so excited and dreadful at the same time that the water both warmed me up and irritated me.
I had to scrub every inch of visible skin on my body before I left, because looking awful was not an option. I washed my hair and conditioned it before getting out.
~ Well, someone's not a happy camper ~ Taylor said. I swear, she was cackling.
~ Shut up. It's my birthday, and I'll do whatever the hell I want to do today, okay? I have no time for your foolishness. ~ I thought back and instantly she settled down.
I'd make one hell of a mom, if I weren't a virgin.
~Whatever. Let me just blow-dry my hair before the bus arrives~ I thought to myself before doing just that. My hair was so silky, all I had to do was blow-dry it and voila! I was finished.
"Great. Now, that's completed. Let's find the birthday outfit." I said out loud as I looked at my purposely messy hair.
I had tons of good clothes but I had none that were perfect for my birthday. A-ha! A salmon tube top with jean shorts and sandal boots. Not high heels, though. They hurt, and I don't want to look like a hoe on my birthday.
