D-0.5.23

The clock has five more minutes before it hits the twelfth mark. Dr. Chen walked out his lab stationed just outside of his lovely country, Anzelia. He was in an island, along with 4 other researchers and scientists, and 30 other staff members. The walls inside were clinical white, and the floors are swept of any dirt. The building wasn't special at all, it was rectangular in shape and small in size. The windows were few and the doors were even less.

As he was enjoying his stroll, he happened to past by the window, and stayed there for a moment to admire the view. It was mesmerizing. Anzelia could be seen just enough. The lights were few as the high walls hugged most of what he could see. The buildings weren't high but that didn't mean their small country didn't grow.

Anzelia collapsed so hard after the United States tried to colonize it during the Second World War. She wasn't big, but she was strong. Her numbers and her weapons were enough. She believed that her people was enough and so they fought but their defenses weren't ready for a nuclear bomb not for a thousand years. They fought and they lost. Anzelia was annhilated. Only a fifth of the country survived, but they survived. Their beloved Emperor Kim Ryu died, during that explosion, which resulted to an orphaned daughter. The Emperor's Wife, Sol Ryu, had to nursed the country back together.

They built up walls around the country, and they didn't let anyone in or out. They cut off the outside world entirely.  They fortified what they have and they did it so quietly. She bloomed, and she flowered. She didn't have skyscrapers like United States do.  She had hundred of floors and at least twenty five cities below the ground.

On top, a simple country is all you could see, a little provincial but it was normal. Unbeknownst to other countries, she was thriving underground. Planes flying overboard wouldn't know.

Dr. Chen went back to his lab and stared at his masterpiece. It was chilly but the heating system was enough, to keep him from shaking. Cold hands met cold glass. Inside he could see two remains of a human being, breathing, snarling and  craving.  It was monstrous.

He knew what he was doing was unethical, but he lies to himself and believe that his purpose and the recognition that will be bestowed upon him is far greater than any moral code.

He was sent on a mission to find a weapon small enough to be flown across the world  but strong enough to destroy what obliterated them. To make them feel what they felt. Anzelia knew what she was and what she wasn't. She wasn't strong military wise, but she was smart and she wouldn't do the same mistake again.

Empress Moon Ryu, ordered 5 of her greatest minds, to research a disease that would bring their enemies straight to the grave and they did. After seventeen years, they did.

Dr. Xiao, entered the room, which surprised Dr. Chen.

"Sorry, about that doctor. I didn't mean to scare you." She chuckled.  Although, she was old enough to be part of the team, she was so much younger than Dr. Chen.

"Next time, knock." He said and patted her in the head, as if she was her own child.

"It's just I'm so excited, I mean, after all these years, we've done it. All we have to do is send it back to the base and we're done." She looked through the glass and touched it, she could feel every single thing she worked hard for pay off. Tomorrow, they will be honored.

"I know." Dr. Chen said with a dejected face.

There was a pause.

"Why? What's wrong?" Dr. Xiao asked him, not out of concern but out of respect.

"Don't you think this is wrong? We will be destroying another country. People like us will die."

"I know that, but they did it first and we- we didn't forget. " She said determined to persuade him, as if proving a point even mattered. They were bound to send the weapon anyways.

"Of course, we didn't forget." He whispered.

And so, he believed his own lie once more.

"It's ready, my empress." Dr. Chen said as he sat in the meeting room with the four others. It was just a small table, large enough to fit them all. He was on a phone call with their client. The others were patiently waiting for any facial movement from Dr. Chen. Any reaction that may indicate that the Empress was pleased with their long term project.

"Yes, we will... Uhmm. No problem... Can I ask a question?" Dr. Chen asked doubtfully. The others were waiting anxiously, they were expecting a praise.

The other line went still for awhile, but he was relieved, when the Empress replied.

"What is it?"

"Are we sure about this?" He bit his lip hoping she would be reluctant.

And without hesitation she said. "Yes."

D-0.5.20

The five of them were all back in their labs, even though it's midnight. Empress Moon Ryu wanted it now, and they have to do it now.

The virus was enclosed in tiny test tubes. They had hundreds of crates prepared. It was small, but it was powerful. They had to move it carefully as it was airborne. Once it touches someone, it makes them immortal, but less human. A kiss of death, that will unleash something monstrous.

The United States will fall down.

They didn't forget.
