The droplets of rain were cool against her heated skin. This is what she loved about being back to Kunthala, her Brother's place. Kunthala was so close to the Northern Mountains, that she could almost feel the snow, the chill in every breath she took. It energized her like nothing.

"Devsena ..."' he called for her from afar. His voice was calm and composed.

"You shouldn't get wet. You are recovering from fever after all ..."

His words trailed off as she turned towards him; he stepped off the marble portico leading to the gardens behind the palace.

She shook her head happily

"'Just a slight fever Amara ... I already feel so much better. I feel invigorated"

He walked towards her in long, easy strides, the raindrops picking up pace as well. She smiled as the raindrops drenched him, step by step. She loved how colour coordinated they were. His deep brown vest, complimenting her rust coloured saree, now clung onto his broad chest and powerful arms.

He reached her and pulled her into his arms,

"I love it everytime we visit Kunthala, Deva. I can almost discover a different side of my wife which I never thought existed ... You are magical"

"Amara ... stop" her eyes were now serious, she could feel his arms tightening around her waist.

"Brother and Sister-in-law may well be out there in the balcony ..."

The rain was now falling in torrents. He reached up and traced her jawline, and then finding a detour to her lips

"And I am in love with you Deva ... you make me experience different emotions every time we are together"

She tiptoed and reached up to kiss him. His arms went around her to pull her closer, as they stood there, out in the garden, his forehead now resting against hers.

The rain slowly lessened, he pulled apart and kissed her forehead – "Stay. I will get something to cover you up, sweetheart. I know you love it out here. But you have to promise me something in return. We will stay out here only for a little while, okay?"

She nodded, feeling already cold and bereft, as he walked towards the back entrance. She started massaging her arms for generating some heat, as she turned and looked at the Mountains again. One day, she promised herself, we will visit the Mountains ... together.

Before her thoughts ended, a warm cover descended over her. She knew instinctively it was Amara ... she leant back to rest against his chest.

Only to be met by the scratchy, rocky walls of her cell. Her reality ... for the past few years, and more. Devsena opened her eyes and looked up, the sky was cloudy and stormy through those iron bars, as the earth awaited another round of fresh rainfall.

The hay that Katappa had managed to sneak in was wet, and she shivered.

"Amara ..." she whispered, as she reached out towards the sky, the rain partially washing away the caked blood from the tips of her fingers. She could almost feel his warmth leaving her. Was he fading away? NO, she shook her head vehemently. He couldn't.

"Shhh, sleep Darling, I am here" His words were like balm on her raw wounds.

"I will always be here with you, my Queen. Those Mountains still await us right?"

"Right" she nodded as her eyes closed once again. The storm outside had picked up by now once again, the skies threatening to open up once again.

The End
