Chapter Four~ A Small Visit
Raidne's POV
Honestly, I need to learn to push my negative thoughts away. Right? Names that I don't ever want to hear again, and people I don't ever want to see again. Sad, isn't it? How the people you love and trust, suddenly becomes your enemies (just because they backstabbed you.) Nice.
And how lovely. A family reunion. Must I say how awful the ones before went? It was horrible and I absolutely hated it. Especially with Auraline there. Well, here was one reason I didn't want to go. Auraline. She brought back too many bad memories I would've liked to keep away. Stowed away in the deepest parts of my life. But, of course, she decided to show up on the exact date of James's birthday. Another reminder of my failure to keep him safe.
"Well that is just great!" I snap to no one in particular, my voice bouncing off the slick cave walls. I leap towards the shelves and snatch up one of my most prized possessions- a rickety compass. Old and slicked with algae. At the time, I tried to remove the all the algae, but they wouldn't come off. I left it like that since then.
I inspect the compass in my hands, and smile despite the pang in my throat. The compass, now forever pointing to South, was old and heavy, weighing down in my hands. It was (of course) a bit rusty and the glass was cracked. I brush my fingers across the glass and clench my hand around the old compass.
It belonged to James.
Note: belonged. (Notice the past tense)
It was a symbol of the time we spent together. Alright, not really. It was a reminder of how I lost something so precious to me. Again, not exactly.
It was the reminder of how I failed to keep my promises.
Costing him something dearly.
I slip the rough chain of the compass over my head, and onto my pale neck. It hangs lowly, just reaching above my tail-line. With a flick of my tail, I dive underwater and out of my beloved cave, towards the place I've been wanting to visit since Auraline's unexpected visit.
~Time Skip~
The water is freezing here, even for me. The waves are gentle, just slowly lapping against my loose hair which billows in soft waves around me. My head barely peeks up from the surface, as I look up at the towering cliffs of where my sister Iyrae lives. I raise my head slightly and slip into the cracks between the rocks, into the welcoming cave of Iyrae. Inside, there were little torches of light, which reminded me of the 18th century, leading up to Iyrae's 'Greeting Room' as she calls it. I halt at the end, turning around and around to look for Iyrae.
"Who goes there?" Iyrae's voice blares out, echoing across the cave.
"It is I, Raidne!" I call back and after a slight while, Iyrae appears, looking surprised at my sudden appearance. She gives me a welcoming smile, which I did not return, because I was still annoyed at Auraline. At that, Iyrae's smile quickly disappears and a frown replaces it.
"What is the matter dear sister?"
"May we talk?" I ask, not answering her question. She nods and heaves herself up on one of the smooth boulders and I do the same, just on another one. I feel the smooth feeling of the boulder and wonder how Iyrae had the patience to smooth out her boulders. I couldn't even be bothered to light up my cave.
"What is wrong?" Iyrae starts off and I sigh hardly.
"It's Auraline." I mutter, feeling a bit pathetic to be whining about my problems to my older sister. Iyrae nods understandingly and I swear I heard her mutter of course under her breath. I ignored it.
"What did she say this time?"
"She... She mocked me." I say with venom. Iyrae lets out a small chuckle which I silence by giving her a quick glare. She suppresses a quick grin and nods again.
"How so?" I stayed silent for a bit, wondering if I should tell her what Auraline said, about James, and most of all, about what happened between us. A lot of time must have passed, because Iyrae heaved a huge sigh.
"Look, if you are not going to tell me, why did you bother coming in the first place?" I looked at her and was about to open my mouth when she interrupted me, "It is a long way back to your cave Raidne, I suggest you leave now if you would prefer to return before the sun sets."
"No, no!" I say loudly, silencing Iyrae's voice. She raises a perfectly plucked eyebrow and motions for me to continue, the thousands of bangles and bracelets on her arm clanging together when she does so.
"Do tell."
I sigh again and swallow the huge lump in my throat, and clearing my throat afterwards.
"It is about a guy."
"It is always about a guy." Iyrae chuckles quietly.
"James." I say firmly and feeling a weight lift up from my shoulders after this small confession.
"James?" Iyrae asks, eyes finally widening at the recognition.
"Yes him."
"Is he not Auraline's lover?" Iyrae asks obliviously. I snarl at the lies Auraline told about him, her and me. Gritting my teeth, I answer.
"Let me tell you the real story." I said coldly.
A/N: OMG guys!! It's been so long! I'm so sorry it took me that long to update. The thing was... I thought no one had interest in this story... so I sorta stopped thinking about it. I personally think it's a bit rushed and is bad, so I'm sorry! Anyways, hope you enjoy the new chapter! And if you want... vote, comment, fan! Love ya!
