“I’m texting Scott,” Avi said taking his phone out of his pocket. “He’ll come and stay with you while I find Devon.”
“I don’t want you to get hurt,” Kirstie said wiping the tears from her face.
Avi looked down at Kirstie, who was still sitting on the floor. “What can he do to me that he hasn’t already done to you?” Avi said. “He’s beaten you; you have bruises all over your arms and you have a black eye. I stand a chance. He’s never coming near you again.” Just then there was a knock at the door. Avi ran over to answer it. It was Scott, Mitch and Kevin.
“We came as fast as we could,” Kevin said filing into the room behind the others.
“Thanks. Make sure she’s ok and that Devon doesn’t come near her,” Avi said.
“You got it.” Kevin walked over to Kirstie to help her up off of the floor. Avi began walking towards the door.
“Avi,” Kirstie said. He turned back around.
“Yeah?” Avi replied looking into Kirstie’s eyes.
“I-,” she began. “Just be safe.”
“Ok,” Avi said. But he was far from safe.
As soon as Avi opened the Devon burst in angrier than ever. He pushed Avi aside and into a wall, causing a picture frame to fall to the floor and break. Kevin, Mitch, and Scott all circled around Kirstie to keep her safe and away from Devon.
“Get away from her!” Avi yelled, running and tackling Devon to the ground. The two beat at each other and rolled around on the ground. Scott, Mitch, Kevin, and Kirstie ran around them towards the door.
“I’m calling the police!” Mitch shouted at Avi over all of the noise. Devon had gotten to his feet by then and Avi was not far behind him. He was soon up, too, but he couldn’t dodge the forceful punch Devon was beginning to throw. Avi fell backwards and against the wall, hitting his head. His vision was blurry for a moment and then everything went black.

“Guys, I think he’s starting to wake up,” Kirstie said as Avi began to open his eyes and sit up. “No, no, no. Nurse says you can’t sit up until all the swelling goes down. Something about the risk of brain damage.” Avi laughed, but quickly stopped realizing that it hurt his head. “How are you feeling?” Kirstie asked leaning forward towards Avi in her chair.
“Well, my head really hurts,” Avi said touching his hand to his forehead and then leaning back onto the hospital bed.
Kirstie laughed. “Why did you do that for me?” she asked grabbing his hand.
“What do you mean?” Avi replied, trying to cover up his feelings for the soprano. “Scott, Kevin, or Mitch would’ve done the same thing. We’re a family.”
“But with you it was different,” she began. “You skipped out on Chinese food to come back to the hotel to find me. Why?”
“I was really tired.”
“Ah, come on!” Kirstie joked. “You are an awful liar.”
Avi sighed and then smiled a little. “I just really like you. I guess it’s time that you found out.”
“Obviously, Devon and I are through. The police arrested him while he was trying to run out of the hotel. He didn’t get very far.” Avi laughed.
“AVIously,” Avi said laughing at the inside joke. Kirstie laughed, too.
“I really like you, too,” Kirstie said looking at the floor.
“Really?” Avi said sitting up quickly and hurting his head with the sudden movement in the process.
“Yeah,” Kirstie said. “Really.”
Avi stood up and got out of his bed. He picked Kirstie up by her waist and spun her around. He set her down, but kept his hands on the brunette’s waist.
“Can I kiss you?” Avi asked laughing.
“Well, duh,” Kirstie replied wrapping her arms around Avi neck and slamming her lips into his.
“Ahem!” a familiar voice called from the door way. It was Scott; Kevin and Mitch at either side of him. Mitch reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He fished around for a moment before handing a 10 dollar bill to Kevin.
“Did you bet on us?” Avi asked shocked and tickled at the same time.
“I said you were going to get together before the end of tour and Kevin said before May,” Mitch said. “Obviously, he won.”
“AVIously,” Avi and Kirstie said simultaneously. They looked at each other and began to laugh along with Kevin, Scott, and Mitch.
“I love you, Kirstie,” Avi said pressing his forehead against Kirstie’s.
“I love you, too, Avi,” she said smiling.
