James was on his last shift for the day at Privet Café. He loved his job although a late night shift on a Monday was not his cup of tea. James was serving the usual 9pm customers he had grown used to seeing every night, having to blow his dark hair from his eyes every now and then, it was usually busy at this time of night but particularly this Monday night. His best friend, Sirius, was sitting at the other end of the Café in his usual corner table, watching as James struggled with the last few orders chuckling quietly to himself every time James' glasses would slip down his nose making him tilt his head back to keep them on while his hands were full. It came to the end of James' shift when through the door came the most beautiful red haired girl he had ever seen. Her red hair was flowing perfectly behind her with her perfectly sculpted face and her gorgeous smile, she was wearing a gorgeous white top with a short black skirt. James was walking to serve his last customer without taking his eyes of the beautiful woman, he was so enthralled in her beauty he lost his footing and next thing he knew there was coffee everywhere, worst of all he spilled it all over the new red haired customer's white top. James went red as he saw the mess he had created.
"Uh.. I.. I'm sorry, uh.. I'll clean it up, I'm sorry." James couldn't seem to find the words as he was failing to pick up the broken glass. Unable to complete this simple task James let out a sigh of defeat.
"Here, let me help you." James looked up to lock eyes with the red haired girl, handing him a piece of the broken glass. James blushed a deep red seeing her up close in all her beauty.
"Thanks, uhh" James was unsure of how to finish the sentence as he realised he still didn't know the red haired girls name.
"Lily, Lily Evans." Lily stated while picking up the rest of the pieces of glass.
"James, James Potter, and I owe you one for this." James replied.
Lily broke her eyes away from a red faced James and realised they were still on the floor and everyone was looking at them and the mess of spilled coffee. James got up still embarrassed by the scene he created and walked behind the counter to the pile of mops under the desk. Lily stood up a short time after that insisting that she help clean up too. after finishing cleaning up and putting the mops back under the desk James turned to face Lily and her coffee stained shirt.
"I'm really sorry about your shirt, looks like I owe you another thing." James sighed. To be completely honest he wouldn't have minded as he would have been able to spend more time with an amazing Lily Evens.
"It's ok, really." Lily insisted. "Anyway, I best be going now."
"Thanks again for the help." James thanked her again.
"Anytime." Lily said waving her goodbye as she walked out the door.
By this time most of the people had left the Café as it came close to closing time. Sirius walked over to James as he stood there watching the door as though Lily might magically walk back through the door.
"You made quite the scene there Potter." Sirius laughed.
"Shut up Sirius" James hissed at his mate. "Did you see her, She was perfect."
Sirius stood still baffled how his best friend could have 'fallen in love' so quickly with a stranger. "You realise you guys have only known each other for a few minutes."
"Yes, but this is true love, we were made for each other." James insisted as he turned to face his friend, snapping out of his daydreams. Sirius just shook his head knowing it was useless to argue with James.
"Come on, let's close up." Sirius suggested. "When we get home you can tell me all about this new blossoming relationship." He continued with utter sarcasm
From this moment on James had decided he was going to stop at nothing to get to Lily hoping she didn't already have someone else. Maybe, just maybe, this incident could be the start of something special.
