A Mad Man's Clause

1| The Ordinary

One, Two buckle my shoes

Three, Four shut the door

Five, Six pick up sticks

Seven, Eight lay them straight

Nine, Ten a big fat hen

"Yay!" the kids chorused in excitement, happy they successfully recited the nursery rhyme.

"That's good!" Mai cheered on, applauding their effort. They had managed to recite the rhyme in just two days, quite a feat for three year olds. "On Monday, we will learn another one, okay?"

"Okay!" Just then, the bell rung, signaling the end of the day and school week.

"Okay." She dropped the marker on her desk and begun circling the tables to help some of them pack up. "Make sure you have everything in your bags." Once she was sure everyone was done, she dismissed them, urging them to stay in the playground until their parents picked them up. With a relieved sigh, she sauntered over to the desk.

"You look tired." a familiar voice said from the doorway. She turned and smiled at her boyfriend, Kofi as he walked further into the room.

"I feel tired." She affirmed, poking out her cheeks to allow him kiss it. "What are you doing here anyway?"

"I missed you like crazy and I just had to see you."

"Yeah right!" She playfully rolled her eyes and stood up to start packing the books and toys the kids used from the tables. He followed behind, grabbing books and toys as well.

"I'm serious, Mai. I really missed your..."

"Please do not finish that sentence." She turned to look at him and sure enough, he had that mischievous smirk of his. He burst out laughing before wrapping his arms around her waist. She squirmed in his embrace. "Stop it, Kay. We're still in the school."

"Mhmm!" he mumbled and blew a raspberry at the back of her neck, knowing fully well how ticklish she felt there.

"Stop it! Some...." Her words were barely out before someone cleared their throat loudly. She gasped in horror, turning to see who it was only to find her friend and colleague, Hannah grinning at them.

"Office romance is forbidden." she teased as Mai finally pulled out of Kofi's embrace with a less than amused frown.

"Technically I don't work here." Kofi retorted smugly.

"Touché" All these two were doing was annoy Mai. She had been so scared when Hannah had come in, thinking it was the headmistress. That woman was a no nonsense lady and finding her in such a compromising position in class especially when most of the kids were still around could've cost her job. Looking at Kofi now, he didn't seem in the least bit concerned.

Mai loved her job and the kids very much. She had always wanted to be here, in a classroom full of kids, teaching them new things about everything. Her heart swelled with joy anytime they succeeded in learning something, a feeling she wouldn't trade for the world. She doubted she even would for Kofi.

"Mai!" Kofi called out, concern written all over his face. "Are you okay?"

"Let's just go." She said, grabbing her bag from the bottom drawer of her desk before locking it. She gave the class a quick once over, making sure nothing was out of place before heading for the door. "I'll see you on Monday, Hannah."

"Okay, dear." Hannah responded then whispered to Kofi as he walked past her. "You better apologize. She's angry."

He nodded and walked out of the classroom only to see that Mai was already at entrance, pushing open the door. "Mai!" She ignored him and walked out. He sped down the hallway, making sure not to bump into the children walking around. She was making her way towards his car parked on the other side of the road when he grabbed her arm. "Mai, I'm sorry!"
