Just as I began to accept my fate, Isaac charged forward, roaring loudly, and kicked the creature's head, making it release me and recoil into the shadows. Wordlessly, he picked me up and ascended the stairs. He set me down, and we both heard the banging of limbs against rotten boards.
"Freddie! The door!" he yelled. I slammed it shut and held it with all my might, as Isacc pushed a couch from the living room towards me.
"Move!" He called. I did as ordered, and he shoved the couch against the door with an efforted grunt. There was a loud smack behind the door that shook what felt like the whole house. Another shriek from below, and dead silence slipped over us.
"It's over." Isacc breathed "It's over."
~THE NEXT DAY~
I wandered outside, stiff and sore from the night's 'adventure'. Across the street, I could see Isacc, standing on his front porch, surrounded by cats. Cats in his arms, cats on his shoulders, and a few at his feet. He grinned and waved, and I could see that he had been crying. Not sad, but happy, in fact. The happiest I've ever seen him, and for Isacc, that's stretching it. But hey, he got his fairy-tale ending, and I got two skinned knees, a jackhammer migraine, and an overwhelming sense of satisfaction. I'd call it a win-win.
