"Sam!" My mother's voice startled me awake. "Get up, your going to be late, again." I heard her sigh. Yeah well that's me, late everyday because I go to work till nine, do homework till midnight, and don't usually sleep. Late is one word to describe it.

My moms heels clicked all the way to my room. Before I know it I was blinded by my bedroom light.

"What the hell mom?!" I yelled covering my eyes with my pillow.

"Language Sammy, you've got that field trip. Wow you do look like hell. Did you sleep at all?"

Of course not. "Yeah, just a rough night." I roll my eyes, and push the pillow off my face. Throwing the blanket with it. Then it dawned on me, "wait did you say field trip? Shoot that's today?!"

"Yes get up." She threw a pillow at me before looking away from my direction. My mother was wearing a neat black dress, a jacket around her. But the one thing I noticed was her gun. She always had it on her, being a detective and all, but that didn't mean she needed to take it everywhere with her. "Hurry up. Your walking too."

My eyes widened. My mom is going to make me walk, that's cruel. I've got a school trip into a forest to study the different plants or something. I really didn't care for, but being late is not an option.

My mom looked at me before walking out of my room descending down the stairs.

I get up and stretch as I walk over to my closet. I had to find something to wear that would be approved by the student body. Since I was in high school I would have to wear something cute that I could hike in. I pull out a flannel, this would be fine, and I make my way over to my dresser. Picking out some black skinning jeans. I put my clothes on, I'm missing something. I pick out a cute knitted hat, this will do.

I stare at myself in the mirror, as if I was waiting to get approval from my reflection. My eyes had dark circles around them, making me look as though I was a raccoon. Screw make up, I couldn't afford to waste anymore time.

Bolting down the stairs, I run into the kitchen. The smell of coffee filled my nose, I see a thermos sitting on the counter. At least my mom cares if I'm awake. Grabbing it I make my way towards the door, grabbing the nearest shoes which happened to be my high top converse. Jogging out the door I realize that my mother took my car. Great I am walking.

I busted my butt, walking to school, when I'm only half way there I get a text from my best friend.

Buses are loaded we are heading out, figured you would be late so I left my keys in my car. Good luck. -Bestie

Well that was nice, I continue on my way making it to school in a mere fifteen minutes. Finding my friends car in the parking lot, I walk over to it. She said she left her keys in the car, I open the door and look where we always keep the keys if I'm late. They were in the same spot. I sit down and buckle up, cause you know it's the law. Shutting the door, turning the car on, and pulling out of the parking space. The feeling of freedom taking over my body. Music turned up max.

The drive wasn't that long in fact I got there ten minutes after the bus got there. But the only problem was, was I couldn't find the bus in the parking lot. I got out, I figured I should ask a park ranger.

"Excuse me, I missed the bus for the school's field trip. Which trail did they take?"

"The blue trail. Follow this map." He handed me a map.

I nodded and headed the direction. I walked down the trail farther, the more I looked at the map the more I realized I could cut through and take a short cut. So I decided to follow my instincts. I cut through the plants biting at my ankles. It started to bug me but I kept going. I heard a stick break, not being phased that much I turned just a little. What I saw was nothing like I've ever seen before.

It was a wolf, I didn't think that they were in this part of the state. I stared at it, face to face. I wasn't scared, in fact I was curious. I took a step closer, but my ears picked up Bettie's voice.

"Sam!" I turned and looked, but before I could even see Bettie. The wolf lunged at me.

It bit me on the side, it hurt like hell. I was bleeding pretty bad. I tried to get up but the pain was unbarring. Bettie rushed over to me.

"What the heck happened. Are you okay?"

"You know just bleeding out and all, help me up." I reach my hand up. She takes it and helps me up. Helping me to the rest of the group.

The blood loss was getting to my head. I was getting dizzy, and when I looked down at the wound it was soaking through my shirt. The more I moved the more the world spun. Eventually, I think my head couldn't take it and everything got dark.
