I blinked a couple minutes before regaining my vision again. I took in my surroundings, I was on the ground. Bettie was sitting next to me. I sit up startling her, who startled me. I was wearing some sort of sunglasses. There better be a good reason for these.
"Omg. I thought that you would never wake up. I didn't want my best friend to die." I keep coming back to why I was on the ground. A sharp pain takes me by surprise. Oof that's why.
"How'd we get away from the group."
"Well you see, I told him we had to pee. I covered you up with my jacket so he didn't see your bleeding side. Which we should probably get checked out. But I took you as far as I could. They couldn't see us nor could I see them so I set you down. Your not very light." Rude. "But seriously take a look at your side."
I roll my eyes. It probably isn't even that bad. I lift up the shirt only to find the bloody jaw mark. It was still bleeding but it wasn't deep enough that I needed stitches. I look at Bets who's gaging looking away. She's never been the best with blood.
"How'd that even happen?"
"See you jumped scared me back there. And I fell." It wasn't the whole truth but I mean she doesn't need to know.
"So this was my fault?" Her face felled making a knot in my stomach grow.
"No." It's all my fault. Should've walked away when I saw it. Or even not go off the trail.
I stand up. "Got an extra shirt? Maybe a first aid kit?"
"It'll take a lot more that a first aid kit." She mutters. "But I always come prepared." She dug in her bag for a few minutes before throwing her extra clothing at me.
I take off my soaked shirt. I take the first aid kit, opening it. I grab the biggest patch she had and some medical tape. I stand up so I have a straight body without any rolls. Putting it on I fix up the bandage. While pulling on her shirt. That should do. Her shirt was a graphic tee that had some stupid thing on it.
I look at her and nod. "Let's go."
"Home?" She pipes up. And to me that didn't sound too bad.
"Please. Oh here are your shades." I toss them to her. She was caught off guard and drops them.
"Your buying me a new pair if they broke."
"Whatever." I laugh as I hike up the trail.
On the way home we blasted music. Bettie and I called saying I had to go home because I wasn't feeling well and she was going to drive me. Bets and I don't always skip, but since we're both ahead we go and do what we please. A lot of the time we just hang out at my house and watch movies. Now we're heading to her house to do exactly that.
Bets mom passed away when she was little. Her mom and my mom were best friends, when he passed she basically lived with us. Unlike me she remembers what her dad looks like. I've never seen mine. Bettie plans on moving in this summer along side her mom. We could all look out for each other. But we're already practically roommates as is.
Bettie turns into her driveway. She looks in my direction, "you sure you don't want to drive to the doctors. Maybe it will get infected. You could die!"
"I'm not going to die." I say getting out of the vehicle.
"You could. There's a 34% chance. I don't like taking chances. Plus we have P.E. tomorrow and I don't want you to sit out all alone." She follows me into the house turning on the lights as we walk in.
"Your being dramatic again Bets." I say as I sit on her comfy couch. This couch could eat me for all I care. It's so comfy.
"I'm just looking out for you. So your sitting out all alone tomorrow. Maybe I can say I have bad cramps."She turns towards me the realizes. "Oh heck no. Your literally bleeding out. There's no way your going to participate in that. Sam!"
"Your words not mine. What do you want to watch?"
"How about the one called GO TO THE DOCTOR! Sam I'm worried. That's my job. You'll wish you had listened to me." Thats not even a real film.
"I'm not on my deathbed yet. I'm fine. Pick a real movie preferably."
"Can we watch a horse movie? The one with the cute cowboy." There's Bettie for you. Always caught up in a fantasy.
"Yeah why not."
After about two movies her mom comes home. She catches us sitting on the couch. She shakes her head and heads into the kitchen.
"I guess that's my cue to go." I start to get up. The pain comes again stabbing me like a knife. I take a deep breath in.
"Stay for dinner. My mom won't mind."
"I've got to get home anyway. My mom will be expecting me."
"I'll drive you home." She gets up and stands beside me. She waved to her mom and walks me out to the car. She gets in the drivers; I select the passenger side.
All the way home my side throbbed. The pain was getting really bad because every bump we hit I would flinch. She pulls into my driveway. I wave goodbye and walk to the door. The sound of the car getting quieter every passing second. I open the door. My mom was still gone.
I went up into my room and lay carefully on my bed. Making sure that I didn't move to quick. Tomorrow sure is going to be hell. A couple minutes later I pass out.
I awake when my mom walks in the house the sound of her heels clicking stops when I hear her speak.
"She's fine. I didn't get a call. Okay I'll check on her." She must be on her phone. I don't bother to open my eyes. I hear her walk up the stairs. And straight to my door.
A few knocks followed by my moms voice. "Sam?" She opens the creaky door. To find me 'asleep'.
My mom probably made the conclusion I didn't feel good. Just like whom ever said. And will just let me sleep. Which thankfully I accept happily. Falling back into a deep sleep.
A/N: So yeah Sam. What do you think about her? Bettie reminds me of one of my friends how bout you? I'm glad that you are reading it. Promise this isn't going to just stop like Secrets did.
