I remember the first time I skipped school. I was 14 years old and my best friend wanted me to visit her mothers grave with her. She knew that if she went alone, that she would feel even lonelier than she was already feeling. My best friend Catherine lost her mother at 12 years old. The day she lost her mother, we were at my house and we prepared for the first house party ever. I was also with her when she spoke her last words with her mom.
Why does she need so long to put on her damn shoes. I rang the doorbell once again. Enough is enough. I was about to call her, when I heard her footsteps towards the door. She opened it for me and there she stood. She had wet hair and some kind of sauce in her face. I was amazed how she could look so silly and so pretty at the same time. "Seriously? I thought that you were almost ready? And whats with all that?", I said and pointed towards her head.
"I thought we would get ready at your house. So i thought that I could let my hair airdry."
"Whatever. At least you wear shoes."
I took her by her wrist and wanted to pull her to our car. She told me to wait for a minute. She went to the living room and told her mother that she was about to leave and that she would sleep at my place after the party.
"Ok, but take of yourself. My little baby. Growing up so fast. You're already becoming a wonderful woman. Your father would be proud of you. As proud as I am."
"I love you, mom."
"Loved you since day one."
Catherine came to me with a big smile and told me how she was really excited and nervous at the same point. She talks a lot sometimes. While we headed to our car, with my mum sitting in it and waiting patiently, I kind of felt as if somebody was watching us. I turned around and I saw her mother. She looked at me through the kitchen window and smiled at me. I smiled back.
Later that night when both, Catherine and I, were drunk, my mother called me. She was hysterically saying something about how Catherine's mother was involved in a car crash and that she passed away. I felt like throwing up in that moment. I ended the call and started looking for Catherine. I spotted her. On the dance floor. The happiest girl in the room.I skipped a few times since then but I was a pretty good student. I wasn't the girl with straight A's all the time. That was another girl in my class but my teachers got along with me.
I wish I had skipped this lesson. I hate physics. It's not that I'm bad but I am not really interested in that kind of stuff. Gladly, the doorbell rang and I rushed outside. I was not really watching my steps, so I bumped into Kelsey. Kelsey is very popular and probably the one girl I always admired for her style. It was really iconic but still simple.
"Hey Kels! Sorry, I'm a little distracted right now"
"Hey babygirl! No don't be sorry for that. I am never concentrated on anything. But good to see because I am going to throw a party at my house at Friday. Wanna come?"
"Of course. Can Catherine come, too?"
"I already asked her", she said and smirked. "So I guess I'll see you there!". And off she went. I sighed. I loved that girl's parties and I was willing to go but there was schoolwork that had to be done. I grinned. Yeah, schoolwork. Who am I trying to fool?____________________________________________________________
"Too much blush"
"Couldn't you tell that before? How am I supposed to get that shit of my face now?"
"Maybe I can slap it off?"
We died of laughter. Catherine and I sat at the floor of my room. My room was very aesthetic and put together. Other than Cathy's room. Hers was right beside mine but had an 180 degree difference. It was messy and girly and very colourful.
My mother was best friends with Cathy's mom and so it happened that Cathy moved in our house. She had other relatives but either she had no contact to them or they lived far away. Why should she move to strangers when her best friend's parents loved her like their own child? We were almost finished. We both put on highlighter and checked if anything was smeered. I wore a black high-wasted ripped mom jeans with a nude croptop and a leather jacket. Cathy totally rocked her black miniskirt and grey bralette.
"Are you sure that you don't need a jacket? I mean yeah it is summer but it is going to get colder in some hours." Cathy nodded. I looked through my garderobe and spotted a jean jacket. I handed it over to her and told her how good her outfit looked. Cathy and I often complimented each other. Of course we called each other 'bitch' or 'hoe' sometimes but in my opinion girls should support each other and not try to drag their self-esteem.
I dropped my phone into my little clutch and put on my nude pumps.
"Ready?"
"Yes, let's go girl."
