I slowly walked down the red carpeted corridor , it seemed quiet ... too quiet. Overgrown vines had broken through the windows and began growing along the walls and ceiling of the abandoned hotel, despite the tragedies of the so called 'apocalypse', it did have its beauties. The cold air from outside blew in my face and caused me to shiver, I zipped my jacket up...winter was on its way.
"WAIT!" Nathan was trailing behind me.
"What are you doing?" I gazed at him with confusion.
"Maybe I - I should come with you... I lied, my brother has been missing for a week now, I've been waiting for him to come back but he hasn't and I've been too scared to leave and find him until now"
"Well...he's most likely dead" I said , he looked at the floor, tears swelling in his eyes as my unsympathetic comment disheartened him.
"No...no , that can't be true...h-he's strong, he managed to look after himself and me this whole time, keep us alive ya know?" He gulped.
"Anything can happen" I shrugged and started walking off.
"Please let me come with you" he called to me.
"No, you'll just slow me down" I tied my caramel hair into a ponytail and allowed the short pieces to sprout out.
"O-okay" he mumbled, his shoulders slumped as he headed back to his room.
"Ughhh" I sighed "Fine".
"Thank you , thank you!" He exclaimed with joy.
"Keep it down" I hushed him "and stay close".
"So can I have my gun back?" He whispered.
"No, you can barely hold it , let alone shoot, now keep quiet" I pointed to the two zombies ahead "stay here".
I crouched and lightly snuck behind a pile of random but conveniently placed crates, avoiding their soulless white eyes. I drew out the spare knife from my belt and gripped the rubbery handle tight. Suddenly I kicked the back of the zombies knee and it fell weakly, face flat on the ground , giving me the chance to jam the blade through its head and end it for good.
"One down, one to go" I murmured to myself as I jerked the dagger out.
I stood up, aligned my hands and the blade and threw it straight forward. It tore right through the second ones head , almost sawing it in half. Crimson liquid spilt out everywhere and the body collapsed to the ground, a puddle of blood forming around.
I turned around to see Nathan gawking in amazement. I could feel my cheeks flustering a rosy pink colour as I felt embarrassed. I waved my hand to him, ushering him to hurry up and follow again.
"That was awesome!!" He squealed.
"It was nothing" I replied blandly, replacing my blade.
We carried on pacing through the hotel, down the multiple flights of stairs until we came to the exit.
"I forgot to ask before but whats your name?" he asked inquisitively.
"Skye"
"So how did you-" he started.
"That's enough questions for today" I cut him off mid sentence.
"You know you're not very nice" he crossed his arms sassily.
I glared at him angrily and his arms fell to his side once again.
"S-sorry" he stuttered in fear.
"Shh" I held my hand over his mouth, preventing him to speak anymore, his warm breath hitting my skin. I pulled him back behind the wall.
"LOOK WHAT WE HAVE HERE" A loud masculine voice shouted. I peered round the side of the bricks and out of the what would've been glass doors if the glass hadn't been shattered. There were about 6 or 7, males and females dressed in leather jackets and an all black outfit.
"NO NO PLEASE , PLEASE DONT" A woman screeched constantly and the crowd cackled in sync. I observed as the man raised her up by her throat, strangling her. An accomplice then handed him a machete which he didn't hesitate to thrust into her stomach. Her screams soon died out.
"What kind of sick people would do such a thing?" Nathan gasped, his eyes stuck on the murderers too.
"You'd be surprised..."
