I pulled my hoodie over my head and hugged my books to my chest, trying to hide myself even more as I walked through the crowded hallways of school. My feet quickened their pace of their own accord as I sped-walk through the hallways to my best friends' locker.

I'm a shy girl, I hate attention. Literally. Whenever I'm in the limelight, my palms get sweaty, I look like an apple from the excessive blushing, I stutter, I get clumsier than I usually am, I stare at the ground... let's just say it's a terrible experience.

The world works in a funny way, though. The more you want to avoid something, the more you get it.

I didn't intend to be a staight-As honour student. Sports are some people's ace, academics just happen to be mine. I've been maintaining a 4.0 GPA and many would call me a teacher's pet out of spite but, it's what I do. Be smart. I don't have a tutor, I just read a lot. People kind of dislike me sometimes (most of the time), especially when the teacher gives out test papers - whether it is for us to take, or for us to review.

I ignore them though. Like a shy person always does, I avoid conflicts. Just hold my head down and take it silently.

Finally, I reach Liana's locker.

"Hi." I murmured quietly, wishing she wouldn't make much of a fuss. Maybe I should pull my whole hoodie over my head...?

"Hi Michelle." She slammed her locker shut, making me jump a little. She was about to go into her usual Liana-ramble - I could see the look in her eye that told me she was dying to tell me what happened last night. But then I looked into her baby blue eyes and she froze.

I gulped. This was not good.

Her eyes examined and explored mine thoroughly, and then I couldn't take it. I couldn't stand a stare with a person that lasted for more than 10 seconds. I looked at the ground, suddenly hating myself for my introverted personality.

"You got contact lens?" She asked, her voice coming out a little squeaky.

"Yeah, sure, what's the big deal?" I said in a rush to get the words out, realising that people were starting to stare at me.

"I thought you said you would never get them!" Liana broke out of her inspection-mode and became her usual bubbly, talkative self again. "Gosh, you look so pretty in them! I kept trying to persuade you to get them but you just wouldn't listen! I mean, your eyes look so pretty now, of course they looked pretty before but now they're like... WOW! And I'm kind of glad you got rid of your geeky chunky spectacles-"
