Charlotte’s POV

The next morning I woke up early and I made my way through all of my classes until I got up to potions with Slughorn. When everyone else had left I hung back. Professor Slughorn was cleaning up and seemed to be in a bit of a hurry.

“Professor?” I called and he jumped.

“Oh, Charlotte it’s just you, I thought everyone had left already” He breathed heavily.

“No, I, um, I was just cleaning up a bit myself…”  I dug around my bag until my hands clasped around the restricted section pass.

“What did you need now?” He asked still staring at me.

“Oh, um, well yesterday I was practicing spells and I happened to come across this” I held up the piece of parchment.

“It’s a pass to the restricted section authorized to Tom Riddle.”

Slughorn’s eyes bulged. “Where did you get that?”

“I found it on the floor”

He reached across the table and ripped the parchment out of my hands. “Thank you, I will return this to Mr. Riddle immediately.” Slughorn said.

When I refused to leave right away he added “Dismissed Miss Henry!”

I scrambled out of the classroom and to the outside corridor. What was going on with this school?

Tom’s POV

I arrived at another one of Slughorn’s dinners particularly early upon request. I arrived at his door and knocked.

“Tom?” His voice rang out.

“Yes”

“Come in come in.” He said and I pushed open the door and went in to see the big round table wasn’t set at all and it looked as though a hurricane had hit the place. Confused I continued to walk in.

“Professor Slughorn?”

“Over here boy over here”

I saw Slughorn sitting on his sofa sipping tea from a mug with some biscuits on the end table.

“Have a seat, have a seat” I sat in front of him and scanned the room for a second time.

“There is not party tonight is there Slughorn…” I proclaimed.

“You are a smart boy Tom, brilliant, and you’re right with that…But the reason I’ve called you here is because a student of mine, well, not just any student you should know her, Charlotte, she gave this to me today after class” He held out the parchment and the moment my eyes fell on it I immediately knew what it was.

Charlotte, It was in the book we practiced with last night. The pass to the restricted section of the library it must have fallen out.

“I think you know what this is…” I grabbed it from his hands

“I’m sorry Professor it must have fallen out of the book I had it in.”

“And what book was that?”

“It was a book about horcruxes” He flinched at the word. “It says to create a horcrux one must split his soul how would one do that?”

Slughorn got up and moved to the fireplace. “Oh well Tom, you are a smart kid, surely you can figure that one out on your own”

“But why only one? Why not seven? The most powerful wizarding number there is.”

“By God Tom isn’t killing one person enough?” Slughorn looked at me with wide eyes.

“I suppose so…Just a question.” I started to walk away.

“Tom” I turned. “Be careful…where you put that pass”

“I will Professor Slughorn” I said turning to the door “Don’t you worry”

I walked out of his office and back to the common room.

I sat on the sofa in the common room facing the fire with a hand to my mouth. All I could do was think; the horcruxes. To make one would mean to kill another person, to take their life. I had a few people that this would be quite alright to do this too. I sat before the fire and thought of who would be the first perhaps to be victims to the cause.

After moments of contemplation I decided against doing anything soon and headed to the boys dormitory stairs.

The next morning

The next morning I got up just as the sun was rising and walked the halls. I was walking past the girl’s lavatory. There was no one around, or so I thought. As I continued past the girl’s lavatory I saw Myrtle.

She stopped short at the sight of me. I stared at her and she stared worriedly back.

“Myrtle” I said to her.

“Tom” she replied. After a moment’s pause we wound up going our separate ways.

Myrtle’s POV

As I walked passed Tom I wondered. Why was he up in this corridor? Why did he stop in front of me? Why did he just keep walking after? What was he up too? Where was Charlotte? All these things flooded my mind. Tom Riddle was up to something strange and I was going to find out. First I needed to find Charlotte. Maybe she knew what was going on with him. Hopefully she didn’t get sucked into his sketchy ways…
