You Can't Run From The Silence

Chapter Two

   I started sweating so hard I could feel it in my hands. The man got ever so closer as he kept on whispering those words:

   You can't run from silence

   He started screaming it in my ears as the voice become more and more distorted and louder I want to cover my ears. I want to scream out for help. I was desperate to do anything, anything at all. I started crying uncontrollably but my face didn't move. The man started screaming now in his raspy voice so loud that I couldn't make out what he was saying and it was just a tortuous screeching noise.

   It was so overwhelming that I gained back my ability to move and flailed my arms around the place screaming as loud as I could. But as I looked around there was no one there. The window was closed and the man was gone.

   I turned back on the lights and marched into the bathroom to look into the mirror. My eyes were bloodshot and there were dark circles under my eyes. Strands of my long black hair were pasted onto my forehead with sweat. I rubbed my eyes and opened them again.

   In the mirror didn't show my reflection anymore. It showed that of a little girls face. She had blond hair that ended at her shoulders and really short horribly cut bangs. I instantly began sobbing again.

   "Penny? Penny what are you doing in there" I asked her quietly slowly backing away from the mirror.

   "Zoe don't you remember me? Don't you remember you're sister? What happened Zoe are you abandoning me? You don't love me anymore do yo?" she asked getting louder and angrier with each word. I walked backwards until I hit my back off the wall. My eyes never leaving her blue holes.

   "But I do love you" I pleaded as my chest rose and fell with every breathe I took.

   "Then prove it Zoe, prove that you love me, prove it" she cooed. While she was speaking her face started to melt off the mirror like wax candles. Her face was just a fleshy puddle on the ground now. I covered my mouth and forcing myself not to puke. The like puddle started to bubble at bit and that's when I fled to the kitchen.

   I have to get out of here. So I hurriedly rummaged in the kitchen drawer. But in the process I dropped a load of silverware and knives onto the ground. As I finally found my keys the mans screams bellowed through my head. It was even more horrifying than before.

   I rolled over on my side with my head in my hands. I had no energy to say anything to the voices I just lay there praying that this would be over soon.

   "Do you not like this Zoe" said Penny appearing in the reflection of the silverware. I nodded my head frantically grabbing the spoon gripping it like it was my life.

   "Then all you have to do is cut it. Cut the connection with you and me. Give me something for me to leave" she said chuckling. I furrowed my eyebrows indicating I didn't understand what she was saying.

   "I want you to give me a piece of you to remember by" I finally understood and agreed to her. Just then the whole kitchen started shifting in shape. It started swirling and blurring. And changing colours from blue to green to pink.

   "Hurry or I'll have to stay" she giggled.

   I grabbed the knife from the kitchen drawer. I took long deep breathes as I could hear the voices threatening to come back. I put the blade to my hair and cut it off up t my ears. I looked around for Penny to notice. But she just sighed at me.

   "Zoe-bear You have to try harder than that. You don't want the silence to come back do you" she teased. The voice started getting more scratchy with the man repeating his only line.
