I smile softly and grab her hand. She looks at me and smiles. "Fries for life?" I ask softly.
"Fries for life," she confirms. We stare at the ceiling in a comfortable silence. I playfully say, " I love you my fri!!"
She giggles and says, " I love you too!!" If only she meant it. A small familiar sound fills my head. . . It's a voice motherly almost and it speaks. . . .it tells me I'm not good enough. . . I swallow and squeeze her hand. She looks at me. This isn't the first time she's helped me deal with this. Her voice is soft and calm, " fight them annelise. . . .don't let them control you." She grips my hand. "I love you annelise." The voice slowly subsides into nothingness. A buzzing noise. I look over at her and smile softly. "What song next?" I whisper softly.
"I don't care are you okay??" She says.
"Yea. Thanks to you. . . " I'm talking more to myself than her. I slowly rub my thumb over her knuckles. "Thank you" I look over at her with tears in my eyes. I grab my phone and play music humming slowly. And so we sat there staring at the ceiling listening to Twenty One Pilots feeling as though we were floating.
