Lost. Everyone in the whole world gets lost. However, this is my first time. I have been traveling these woods for as long as I can remember. But I didn't expect myself to go this far out and get lost. The day was coming to an end and the birds were taking their resting places in the trees above. Their soft chirping and singing soon died away.
I was alone. Something I beg for at times, now feared. I looked around the great pine trees that surrounded me, hoping my dogs would give a shout or a sign of where I should go. The sad part is, they turned and headed home while I kept moving forward. The forest, one thing I never feared, was the most fearful thing to exist to me.
I felt anxiety wash over me, now would be the worst time to panic. I scream, you scream, we all scream because we're terrified. I sat down and began taking deep breathes by a nearby tree. We stay in place because we don't want to lose our lives. The breeze picked up. In story books the wind sings in the characters ears leading them home, for me, that was a hopeless dream.
I began to ponder, would I spend the rest of my life here? Would my family move on and find another child? Would they send a search party?
Let's think of something better. My thoughts came to an abrupt end when a squirrel raced down the tree. I watched in amazement as the squirrel ran around looking for an afternoon snack. The young rodent never looked my way which lead me to think, was I really nothing in this world? I snapped at myself for thinking such a thing.
I heaved myself up and began walking in the direction I had traveled from. I began thinking of a great time my relatives had visited and we all went and enjoyed each other's company in the forest. We had started singing and laughing, every trouble that seemed to exist had vanished that day.
Down in the forest, we'll sing a chorus, one that everybody knows. I smiled as the familiar song rang through my head. I began to pick up my pace and started singing to myself. Any man would have called me crazy, indeed I looked as if I was, however, the man wouldn't have known the great fear I felt before.
Hands held higher, we'll be on fire, singing songs that nobody knows. I had been having such a good time i didn't realize how much ground I had covered in this amazing forest. I laughed and smiles and the more I sang along with the song, the closed I got to home. I stopped dancing for a minute to catch some wind in my chest.
I looked around and saw a faint light to the south. A familiar call had caught my attention, my parents had noticed my absence and were calling for me to come home. All the negative thoughts had been carried off by the wind. However, I was saddened. I was having such a good time that I wasn't ready to leave. As much as I wanted to stay, my life back home needed me  more than the forest.
I kept contemplating about leaving or staying. My brain has given up, white flags are hoisted. Instead of leaving that afternoon, sad and depressed, I left the forest happy, dancing, and singing all the way. I reached the door steps as my mother stood outside and smile down upon me. "I was afraid you had given up your home life to live free and happy in the forest."
I have a soft smile, "Mother, as much as I love the forest, my love and happiness will rest in this home, but that could never mean that my true love lies in the forest." My mother took my hand and helped me up the stairs, before the door had closed I took one long and meaningful glance back at the foest.
The breeze picked up and carried the trees along, as if they were dancing. Down in the forest, we'll sing a chorus, one that everybody knows. Hands held higher, we'll be on fire, singing songs that nobody knows.
