Chapter 3- Apologies?

James's POV

Regret flashed through me as I trudged up the stairs in our house. No matter how frustrated and scared I was, I really shouldn't have said that to Aleks. I really wished that he hadn't noticed anything, and that we could continue our lives as friends, even though a part of me wanted more. But I refuse to risk losing him. I'd rather have him as a friend than having him be a stranger to me.

Upon reaching my room, I flopped down onto my bed and closed my eyes.

The wind rushed past my eyes as I ran past Aleks, laughing so hard that there were tears in my eyes.
"Come back here asshole!", He shouted at me, laughing as well. He was holding the Marshall face poster that I had put in his office, after he complained about it being in the house and that he couldn't have guests anymore. I accidentally slowed down and he quickly caught up to me. I playfully screamed as he tackled me to the ground. My heart fluttered as he grinned at me.

I woke up with a start with sweat practically dripping from my forehead. "Great. Now I can't even sleep anymore.", I mumbled, still groggy from my nap. I stretched out and checked the time on my alarm clock, which was on my bedside table. "It's 1:00 AM? I slept through dinner!", I exclaimed with a frown.

I padded down the stairs and checked my phone. 5 missed calls from Hoardan. Great. I'll have to deal with this shit in the morning. I enter the kitchen, wanting to get a snack, and notice, with a start, that Aleks was sitting at the kitchen table. "Aleks- I- I want to-", I stuttered. "Look James, there's no need to apologize to me. Obviously, we both overreacted.", Aleks interrupted me with. "Um, ok.", I said nervously. I didn't expect Aleks to fix things up so quickly. He usually is angry for at least a whole day, and wants the other person to apologize first. "Yeah. So how about we put everything past us? Friends?", He said, holding his hand out to me. I could feel my heart cracking into little pieces as I replied with,"Friends.", and shook his hand.

I quickly grabbed a snack and headed up the stairs, back to my room. I had an uneasy feeling. "But he apologized right? It seemed similar to an apology.", I thought to myself. "So why did it feel like he was still really angry at me?".
