I-SPY: Secrets Chapter 1

I looked over at my bedside table, the clock read 4:04 a.m. I couldn't sleep I had this uneasy feeling in my stomach. I looked over my room with its pale yellow walls and a window seat where I could see the beach. I've lived in California nearly all my life and I loved it.
I sat in the dark for a while listening to the waves as they lapped across the sand and I was finally dozing off to sleep. The sound of waves was immediately replaced with blaring sirens, I ran out of my room and into my parent's room.
They were dressed in all black and wearing tool belts that held strange equipment.
"Mom, Dad! What is going on?" I screamed.
"Honey, I need you to get dressed" my mother said calmly.
"Why?" I asked.
"Pack up some of your stuff too, please?" She said ignoring my question and passing me a backpack.
I decided to ask questions later and quickly ran to my room. I grabbed anything and everything as I tossed things in my bag since I didn't know if I was coming back. I quickly dressed in black skinny jeans, a green t-shirt and gray converse. I looked in the mirror at my bleach blonde hair and combed through it and put it in a ponytail.
Just as I was walking into the kitchen, a window broke in the living room and two masked men entered my house. I was about to go find my parents when they came up from the basement holding papers.
"Alana, there is no time to explain what's going on. Go to the shed in the backyard and look for the yellow button" my mother said as she passed me a bundle of papers and quickly hugged me.
I didn't look back as I ran out to my yard and into the shed. It was much bigger than it looked and I started moving tools around to find this yellow button my mom was talking about. I lifted the mat and there sat the yellow button.
I stepped on it and a staircase opened up in the floor. It was long and dark but I heard footsteps coming behind me so I ran down them. At the end of the staircase there was a cramped, darkly lit hallway. I walked for what seemed like ages until I reached a small underground lake that had a submarine floating in it. This was unbelievable, all this under my house!
I was shocked. There was a secret lake in my shed. There was obviously something going on here, but I was running out of time because I'd heard more approaching footsteps.
I opened the top of the submarine and hopped in. I followed a small walkway led to a seat that was in front of a computer screen. It also had a giant window where you could see the ocean.
I sat down at the screen and rested my bag on the ground. Then I realized something, where was I supposed to go? I can't steer a submarine! I looked over at the keyboard and saw a green start button. I pushed it and the submarine began to descend underwater.
"Travel Time: 8 hours 30 minutes" the computer said.
I figured I might as well sit back and enjoy the ride. Then I remembered the papers my mom had given me. I pulled them out of my pocket and found a letter among them it said:
Dear Alana
You're probably wondering what's going on and I don't blame you. It's probably going to find this hard to believe but your father and I are international spies. I know everyone says they aren't real but trust me on this one. You mustn't tell anyone outside of the safe house. Last week a book was stolen from a restricted part of our "office". A while back your father got mixed up with the wrong spies, so they think we stole it although I assure you it wasn't us. The agents are coming to arrest us and we don't want to lose you and it isn't safe. The submarine you are in will take you to a safe house in England. Please be careful and be strong.
Love Mom and Dad
Now there were three things I was sure of:
My parents were spies
They'd been arrested for something they didn't do
I was going to England
Three things I was unsure of:
Would I ever see my BFF's Liz and Hayley again?
What about my BF Jake?
If there was food or a bathroom in this submarine.
