I rush downstairs when I hear the doorbell ring. My brothers back, I thought. but when I reach, I arrive to a door with my mom sobbing and my dad rubbing her back while one man, on the other side of the door, apologizes for a loss.

By then I realized, my brother is dead. I still couldn't believe it though so I came closer to my parents, mom had fallen to the floor by then and dad was unaware of what to do.

"Is it true? Is Dick dead?"

My dad looked at me then looked down at his feet and said, "Your brother died in a bombing, he stepped on one and activated it. It was at the nurse corps clinic." There was no emotion in his voice but I knew that my dad was very upset, he only gets that way when he is.

"Nurse corps?" by then my mind shifted to Mary. There is no way I could lose her too.

"Yes," he replies, again no emotion.

My jaw begins shivering and my heart begins beating faster. It seemed my mind already decided that I lost two people without knowing if Mary was actually dead, after he said "yes" water began to rim my eyes.

I didn't stay any longer in that house, my mind had to know what happened to Mary. I went around my parents and once hitting the porch, I began to run towards Mary's home. I didn't see any soldiers so I prayed that she was there.

I rang the doorbell nonstop until someone opened it. When I saw her dad, I couldn't tell what had happened, just like mine he had no emotion.

"Not a good time," he responded to my look.

"Is she?"

"Dead?" he completed, "yes, by a bombing accident. How's your brother?"

"Dead," I replied with a raspy voice.

"I'm so sorry," he said and came closer to hug me, "I'm so sorry," he repeats.

I sobbed as much as I could into his shoulder and thought about Mary and Dick. What must have happened that day and how much they suffered. The fact that I wasn't there to help them hurt a lot more. I lost the two things that were most important to me and this time, I couldn't get them back. They left me behind and I couldn't let that happened so then, I believe, I blacked out.
