SURVIVOR;
Every morning that you
have awoken
when your body is screaming.
Every nightmare that haunts you
but you grit your teeth
and still find a reason to smile.
Every night when you sleep
trying not to think of the gun,
the knife, the poison.
This is survival.
It is ugly, born of blood.
And fear and the dark.
But this is true courage.
And you were born with it
stitched into your sinews
and your bones.
This is how you allow
your soul to reset.
For this survival will get
the finest version of you yet.
