The finals were just around the corner and I was basically tearing my hair out in distress. It was past midnight and numbers were swirling before my eyes once more.
"Arghhh!!!!" I yelled, hitting the table with my pen for the millionth time that night.
If only I hadn't made that promise to him...
Flashback (On messaging)
Hae Ri: Joo Hyuk! When can you come and visit us? It's been over 3 months already and the whole class misses you!
Joo Hyuk: Biyane (I'm sorry), I've been really busy with my studies these days. I'm in a university now, didn't I tell you?
Hae Ri: Aish.... So you're not gonna come by? Ever?
Joo Hyuk: What are you talking about? Of course I'll come by....
Hae Ri: Really?!
Joo Hyuk: Yep. But.... On one condition
Hae Ri: Huh? What is it?
Joo Hyuk: Get an A* for your next math exam 😏
Hae Ri: Aish... And how do I even do that? Have you forgotten I only got a B just 6 months ago??
Joo Hyuk: Nope. I haven't forgotten. But I think you definitely can get it
Hae Ri: Aish... Just because I get the highest scores in class doesn't mean I can get an A*!
Joo Hyuk: If you get an A*... I'll come and visit y'all
Hae Ri: Chincha (Really)?! 😱 You gotta promise!
Joo Hyuk: Yep. I promise :)
Hae Ri: Woohoo! I better study twice as hard now 😜
Joo Hyuk: Yep :D Study hard and get an A* so that I have a reason to come visit

Joo Hyuk: Aish... How many times did I tell you that you don't have to call me that outside of class?? We are almost the same age but you make me sound as if I'm your ahjusshi already

Great. Now it's up to my grades whether Joo Hyuk is gonna come and visit. Just great.
I messed my hair again for the umpteenth time that night. It was once again another sum that I just couldn't solve. I wanted to ask Joo Hyuk for it but I've already asked him, like, 20 questions within the past 24 hours and since it was already past midnight, I didn't want to disturb him, knowing that he's probably fast asleep by now. I sighed. There was no way I could ever get this and it seemed impossible for my grades to jump from a B to an A*, but now that Joo Hyuk would come if I got an A* I guess I have to do the impossible.
I stared at the photo I took with Joo Hyuk again. I missed him so much that it was unbearable. I longed to see his smile and hear his voice, so much that if I ever told anyone, I would probably be deemed as a psycho. Just as I was about to pick up my pen to start writing, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and rolled my eyes.
Ugh... Not again....
